Surpisingly 5 large Khuks ( 4 belonging to Slingshot and 1 mine) all more than 10-12 inches cleared customs and landed in Kolkotta, getting them to Mumbai is proving to be a challenge since the last two months. At their mercy now, the owner of KKHI has apparently left for Nepal leaving the khuks with his contact in DTDC.
Then I would say just go to Kolkata get the Khuks yourself, come back to Bombay and call it a vacation :))

So many times, it happens too fast
You trade your passion for glory
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive

It's the thrill of the fight
Risin' up to the challenge
Of our rival
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night
And he's watching us all with the

And make sure you travel by train. I can help with the "Bong connection". You can buzz me sometime over a weekend (you have my no., I believe), we can have a concall with the Calcutta people, with me interpreting. Seriously sad that DTDC don't have people in regional office who can "speeka da Eeenglish"!!!
Cheers!

So after 5 Months of constant followups and heart ache, the Khukri's are finally here. What was surpising is such large 11-13 inch khukris all sharpened cleared customs without any hassles but were a pain getting from Kokotta to Mumbai.

The Khukris were delivered to my office , 3 Huge Khukris and 1 knife. Luckily the rececptionist had no clue to teh contents and there is no X ray scanner in the office building  These were sent to my office inspite of providing them with my residential address for delivery. KKHI got the address from the office email ID I was using for the correspondence with KKHI. :o

Anyways, after a long wait the blades are finally here, so will let pics do the talking.

The Khuks were delivered covered ina very nice pirnted handmade paper

This is the first blade, the World War Historic Model. Selected this as wanted a classic Khuk Design, the blade size was sufficiently large, great spine thickness and a sweet price.

Afetr opening the packaging the design/blade geometry looked totally different than what is shown on the website. Felt like a Khuk was stabbed right through my chest.

This is the link to the World War Historc Model

http://www.thekhukurihouse.com/catalog/ ... =3938f45c9

and this is the image of the product shown on the webpage

Image

The disappointment was purely from an aesthetcial perspective, I would have preferred the point to drop slightly and the shape to be more broad and leaf like unlike the semi sirupati blade that was delivered.

Here is the blade

Image

Standard Khukri Scabbard

Image

Very Poorly made Chamak & Karda

Image

Gorgeous Teak Wood Handle (next to a Kabar-Short for scale purposes)

Image

Polished Brass Pommel

Image

The Spine is a cm thick, the blade has to be handled to beleive how thick and sturdy the spine really feels
Image

The 1 cm thick spine ground down to 3mm at the unsharpened Choil

Image

About 3 cms wide at the choil and 4.5 cm wide at the edge. Now this is where my disappoinment lies, would have preferred the leaf shape to be at least 6 cm wide to look proportionate to the whole knife and the point to drop slightly by 5mm or so.

Image

Image

The brass cap at the handle below the Choil is cracked in one of the khuks.

Image

Nice polish on the blade.

The Huge blade (Notice the difference between teh clean lines of the image on teh website with it's broad leaf blade vs what is delivered) @#$$6 #$%^** ^&*()_

Image

See how puny the Kabar Short looks compared to the Khuk

Image

Came in pretty sharp for such a huge blade, tried shaving my hairy legs with it   Baal Baal Bach gaye, "Bal" Thackrey se Iq"Baal" hot hote bach gaye

Well a razor hair popping delicate edge is not expected as well on such a chopper I would think.

Image

Image

The Grind on the blade is pretty uniform and I am satisfied, had my reservations earlier.

Moin, I hark back to the days we started this thread...such a long time ago. This is truly a testament to our passion and patience :) We finally got them!!

And great learnings too. What I really love about these blades is the hand forged feel. Have so much character. I think KKHI should not dress up the pictures.

After all the reason we fell in LUST with these curvaceous, lethal, platinum blondes is because they arent dumb

Cant wait to go camping with the Churi. I was smitten with this hand forged bushcraft knife a long time ago. Love the blade geometry...a dazzling maiden...a pry bar with sex appeal cased in very bad clothes ...it is a terrible sheath! But then...dressing her up in a handmade new sheath is so much more alluring prospect

Waiting to feel them in my hands...

Absolutely Chief, so much so for your Nepali Khukri Holiday which never happened  but we managed to get the blades somehow. The WW Khuk is a disappointment, bad call, my choice but the American Eagle's a gem, better finish, better proportions and better balance.

The Churi's was quite a little suprise. This will prove to be a superb bushcraft blade. Very nice thick spine, lovely drop point, nice ergonomic handle and dirt cheap. "Bang Bang Thank you Mam " for the buck I would think   Do need to do a little sheath project for this little hottie. Already have some ideas in my head, will discuss them over cold beer...

The next blade is American Eagle, good call by Slingshot on this one. The blades way better than the first in terms of fit and finish and is very well balanced, great grip with guard and fits securely in the sheath.

Here's teh link to the product

http://www.thekhukurihouse.com/catalog/ ... 13637fa874

And the image shown on the website

Image

Here' s the blade

Image

With the WW Edition

Image

This one's perhaps an mm shy of one cm at the spine.

Image

Very nice Ergonomic handle with a guard and lanyard hole, but the finishing could have been tad better. This one is twice the cost of WW Khuk

Image

Lovely mirror polish on the blade

Image

This one has a full tang compared to the rat tail tang of the WW

Image

Fits nice and secure in the sheath

Image

In the sheath with the Chamak & Karda

Slingshot's choice of the Churi made me wonder, why is he ordering a drop point from Khukri House. It's like going to a Mughlai Restaurant and ordering Chinese  I eat my words.... Should'nt be surprised though, being an avid outdoorsman Sir Slingshot is....

What a lovely blade, too bad I did'nt order one for myself.

This is the Link to the product and the image posted on the website.

http://www.thekhukurihouse.com/catalog/ ... =313035f87

Image

Here's the blade which was delivered.

Image

Image

Thickness at the spine

Image

Full Tang

Image

Very comfortable to hold, lovely stained dark teak wood.

Image

With the Kabar short for comparison.

Image

Image

Very crappy sheath, deserves better..

Image

Not at all a snug fit, the blade slips out if inverted.

Image

I instantly fell in love with teh clean free flowing lines of the blade.

All in the family, three will depart to Sir Slingshot

Image

would have preferred the blade geometry to be similar to the one above and below, broad leaf shaped, free flowing lines.

So to summarise, this was the experience of purchasing knifes/khukries from Khukri house. Not sure if people experienced the same issues dealing with Himalayan Imports.

Would I buy more, maybe yes... The positives are these are builts like tanks, will take any kind of abuse once can throw at these blades. Pricing is very acceptable too, not tooo expensive or over the top.

Negatives no confirmed delivery date, requires a lot of followups (can't blame KKHI) Indian Laws, Courier Services etc etc etc. Finsihing could have been much better. Hell, our Rajastani Sakligar finsihing from the very little I saw in Rajastan was leagues ahead. Slinghsot had specifcally requested for a lanyard hole and a snug fitting sheath, received email confirmation on both requests and both were missed out.

So this was the 5 month ordeal and teh Agony & the Ecstacy of ordering knives from Khukri House Nepal.
