Hi all,
Would like to share this Beautiful, sharp and highly accurate skilfully crafted master piece of yester years.
Thanx to my friend Ravindrane for showing confidence and handing it over to me in for my collection.
Very beautifully aligned and balanced, it aims with ease although original butt has been replaced by nicely crafted Butt made up of wood of Indian Tulip Tree.(Thespesia populnea).
if anyone knows more details of this Model plz share it.
thanx looking forward for comments from experienced people in forum.

Re: My Winchester Model 61 .22 Pump action
Those old Winchester pumps are really nice. They can be surprisingly accurate. Value: an 80 - 90 percent gun will be between US$ 500 to US$ 700. Since almost all the original bluing is gone and the butt has been replaced, it has very little value to a collector.
However, as long as it functions as intended, it is a really nice gun for plinking and hunting. Keep the outside surface wiped down with oil and it shouldn't rust. These guns are getting hard to find nowadays.

It is good for us Indians to take a reality check on the actual price of guns that we own/buy here.xl_target wrote:Value: an 80 - 90 percent gun will be between US$ 500 to US$ 700. Since almost all the original bluing is gone and the butt has been replaced, it has very little value to a collector.

Re: My Winchester Model 61 .22 Pump action
Winnie,
Those prices are on the high end for a very good condition, all original rifle (to a collector). In the condition it is in, that rifle would probably fetch $100 - $125 here if someone likes an old pump for a shooter or to restore. More than likely, it's going to be an old timer who will buy one of those. Most of today's shooters would not would not pay much for one of those as you can get a brand new semi-auto from Ruger, Savage or Marlin for $200 or under. A couple of weeks ago, I picked up a new wood stocked 10/22 for $199. Most of the younger generation prefer semi-autos even though those old Winchesters are fine rifles.

A similar Winchester pump .22 LR was being offered for sale in Saharanpur (U.P.) by a dealer for INR 40K. IIRC this was sometime last year.
Cheers!

Congrats on your purchase. Are you planning to replace the trigger with a volquartsen or tune up the OEM one?
I'd also like to know how good it feeds Federal bulk .22lr
BTW Big 5 in Minneapolis had a rack full of 10/22 for $160 a piece last week.
When I'll get to shoot a gun?

Re: My Winchester Model 61 .22 Pump action
Priyan, no mods at the moment. Federal bulk feeds fires and ejects fine. Trigger is passable; heavy but with a clean break. Minneapolis is a long trip (200 miles round trip) plus mucho traffic and with the price of gas today, not worth the time and effort.
BTW, if I came across a decent model 61, I would buy it in a heartbeat. Did I mention they were fine rifles?

So many times, it happens too fast
You trade your passion for glory
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive
It's the eye of the tiger
It's the thrill of the fight
Risin' up to the challenge
Of our rival
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night
And he's watching us all with the
Eye of the tiger
You trade your passion for glory
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive

Re: My Winchester Model 61 .22 Pump action
Congrats Ranger,
Every old Winchester rifle carry some nostalgia. These little pump actions are wonderful plinkers.
Enjoy your shooting and avoid KF ammo, specially old ones. Extraction problem caused by a swollen case is very common on these rifles. Just an advice from personal experience.
TC
PS : Oh I almost forgot !! The Winchester model 61 can fire .22 short, .22 long and the .22 LR. You can load the ammo at random in the tube and the feeder plate picks them up flawlessly. Please check the markings. It should say .22 S, L, LR cartridge. Though its hard to get .22 Long these days the Short is still a fun -to- shoot ammo.
A particular model 61 was made exclusively in .22 short cal but few of these were sold.
