If it is not too much botheration, can you post a link to the rifle that is for sale? 250-3000 ammo is difficult to get.Getting some that will regulate in a double would be virtually impossible, unless you are incredibly lucky.

rns188,you have a nice looking rifle there.More of a showpiece now, considering the ammo situation.A pity.
The standard load, from date of introduction, was 87 grains at a bit over 3000 fps. This would be the load the rifle is regulated for. The 100 grain load was introduced much later, in the 1940s.

A lovely double chambered for the 250-3000 savage cartridge on a clam shell action. Most likely made in Suhl Germany and marketed in India by the Army and Navy stores. The date of manufacture is August 1926. German barrel markings are based on go/no go gauges 6.3 means that a cylindrical measuring gauge with a diameter of 6.3 mm will fit inside the barrel but a 6.4 mm gauge will not. Add twice the groove depth to that and u will get the bullet diameter. 49 mm indicates the case length that will fit in the chamber, it is proofed and regulated for a jacketed 5.6 gram bullet. While today a double rifle is associated with Africa, the maximum number of double rifles saw use in India during the British rule, they were made in light calibers like the 22 hornet, 250-3000, in the medium calibers like the 303 and the 333 and in the more famous heavy bores. Incidentally the 250-3000 is so designated because it fired the bullet to the velocity of 3000 fps !! BTW the Champlin rifle seems to have gone under some heavy restoration
Best Wishes, logging on after a long time.
