Wild Animal trophies

Post by akayar » Sun Apr 22, 2012 9:50 am

I have in my possession some wild life trophies. Tiger Heads and Tiger skins. These were shot when Big Game Hunting was allowed. These have been cured and mounted by the famous Taxidermists, Van Ingen & Van Ingen of Mysore As per Wild Life Protection Act I declared these Trophies, these were inspected and Registration numbers/seals were affixed. Subsequently the Chief of Wild Life of my State issued me an Ownership Certificate in Form No. 13 under Rule 42 of The W.L.(P) Act.

Earlier such Trophies could be sold/ Transferred under Rule 43, but this rule has since been ammended and trophies cannot be transferred by sale or any other mode of commercial nature. I have become very old and cannot look after these trophies and would like to transfer to some one who loves wild life and would really care and look after these wonderful work of Taxidermy by Van Ingens, who were considered to be the best in the world.

I would appreciate if some learned IGNs are aware of such recent transfers and would advise me as to the correct legal procedure for transfer these tophies. Thanks

If as you say, these trophies cannot be transferred to a person, is it possible that they could be donated to a quality museum of natural history so all could enjoy them? A visit to the museum in question would tell you if they take care of their exhibits or not.

That would be a non-commercial transfer and might be acceptable.

AFAIK you may will them to someone, but may not transfer them in your own lifetime... am not completely sure on this though.

Cheers!
