Dear agn and others who are following this thread 'silently' or less boisterously than a few of us
All the best for MAWC!
Forget the official MQS! Do your JOB!
For me MQS = Minimum Qualifying SKILL, which you have already achieved. You should look for MORE and shoot using 100% of your acquired SKILL with 100% confidence. I am sure that YOU CAN DO IT!

But I haven't Missed it by 12 points last year due to leaky cylinders and probably (or but of course) personal flaws. Waiting for a chance since one year. But Yessir (not Arafat) - Will keep all the lessons in mind and try to enact them out - hope surely the score will improve.Forget the official MQS! Do your JOB!

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Sir Yessir - tirpassion Sir!
Thx Jitu for the wishes.
Managed a visit to the range today. Was disturbed by some Parinita Chopda and Yash-Raj gang of assistants for couple of hours when they had to "shoot". Anyway , played out a practice match today - 94, 87, 92, 92. Though I finally broke through the 90-barrier jinx, the second set thing persisted.
Another thing struck me was that what I thought were Magnashot were in fact Dynashot!!! The match was shot with gsmith. The rest of the practice included F8, SA, 7shots/card *4 cards, etc. Strongly avoided the temptation of second match.
If possible will rush to range tomorrow early morn and set the AP for RWS. If not, gsmith it is. Match scheduled for 9AM tomorrow morn. So wish me luck fellas. And yes - I WILL IMPLEMENT

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Thx again Jitu; but I may not justify the expectations. Results probably on 23rd. A few mistakes horribly committed and looking back I wish to slap myself for those.
1. The second training session thx to filmy folks was delayed and then I should not have carried it out till 2100 since I had to ride another 1.25-1.5 hr of scooter to get to Thane through weekend + office returning traffic. Enthusiasm did me in. Technically, I was "out" for training/ practice purpose from 1200-2200; a good 10-hr period.
2. Did not carry RWS yesterday which I should have and used to set the groups etc. *yesterday* rather than push to today morning. In that case I should have stuck to gsmith which were grouping tremendously nicely.
3. Today morning could not get to Savarkar en route since detail at MRA was put for 0900 hrs and yet during the sighter period adjusted for RWS and used them subsequently. Though I decided not to use RWS if I could not do things right at Savarkar range, I nonetheless did use the new set of pellets.
4. Last night, after returning home, while taking off my shoes my inner soles/ liner ripped off and as the plastic frame underneath would hurt my feet, I actually used new shoes today. BIG MISTAKE. Should have started using these shoes at least a week before; since I had them.
5. So much over-enthused was I last night with my "performance" at the range during practice that I could *not* sleep till about 0130-0145 !!! I read after a *heavy* dinner (hadn't eaten the whole day and was suddenly famished) till finally calling it in. Eyes-tummy taxed extra, for no rhyme or reason - can you believe it ?
These are major mistakes I should not have committed as all of them were avoidable and yet I did. That's why I deserved to be slapped.
OK - now having sentenced myself, to today's tournament. Traffic etc. was all on my side and for the first time reached MRA in time from Thane; well ahead of schedule. So no heavy heart thumping or sweating profusely. Carried ample water and another 2lt bottle of Glucon D mixed water. Two things bid omen - first was the new shoe pinch and the other was the card-holder that fell off when sighter card was sent across. Isn't it funny how MRA does not check it apparatus *before* any competition ?
Anyway, I opened the RWS and started working on those to get the grouping etc. in place. Eventually started hitting 8s & 9s. Then the right eye started to flutter/ shutter (gas related thing I suppose - last night's kabuli chana masala) Two shots misfired and hit # 6 & # 5 I think; the rest stayed on. The 7s taunted by being close to # 8 ring but not touching. When the dreaded second set was to come, I was extra cautious - suddenly forgot to enjoy the art. SOA faltered. Started aborting quite a few shots. The eye flutter was now joined in by wrist shaking !!! Then suddenly 5 cards in a row went for #10 !!! Sense of relief that now was accompanied by sound heart drum beats. So took a long break (> 5min) till "things" settled down. Over all must have got 12-15 #10s.
Finished with 7-8 minutes to spare. Now sat down to get the cards in order and could not resist the temptation of doing a quick math. 3 cards have the hole touching the #10 but not getting a clean cut. So dicey on points - will they be #10 or #9 ? Rough estimate is that I should get 344. Remember the revised MQS from this *Particular* time is 345 (from 335 before). Now even if one of those dicey things become "spicy" - I am through; else I fail by one single point. There are no medals or even certificates for this MRA competition; so essentially 400/400 equals 345/400 for me; but even that I may not get.
Where from here ? Next Thu I visit Dr. Shirsat and talk to him about my P34 sights. Suspect the thread of the elevation and windage are worn off and hence the alignment slips. For some obscure reason, I kept postponing off the repair work of this known flaw till MAWC - that's the reason I am going to lie down now and all you gurus (Jitu included) can take turns at the stick -

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Dear agn,
you have done your job, whatever you could in the given circumstances. The judges will do heir job of counting. So till then think about your MQS = The Minimum Qualifying Skill. Do a match analysis.
Could I act according to my skill? If yes why and how, if no why?
Did I follow my match strategy? If yes why and how, if no why?
Did I warm-up properly? If yes why and how, if no why?
Did I respect my SOA? If yes why and how, if no why?
etc.
Ask yourself the questions and answer them and WRITE THEM DOWN in your diary. You will be able to DRAW GREAT POSITIVE RESULTS from these answers. That will be BIG ACHIEVEMENT. Believe me! You do not get an occasion like MAWC everyday to judge yourself in the context of the match stress part particularly. The experience you have earned there is to be kept as a treasure. You will know WHAT TO ELIMINATE, WHAT NOT TO DO before, during and after an important match. In shooting sport, there are so much of problems arising from all aspects. A very effective way to solve them is the method of elimination.
I personally prefer to stick to the same pellets both during practice and matches (I use standard category pellets; RWS Club, no match grade stuff). There I eliminate a doubt. I have in mind that the pellet will not do the job for me (as it is not match grade pellet ) so I will have to do the job. That way, I keep my senses awake. That is just an example.
best regards

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
I envy you for reaching close to MQS given the circumstances. Pat on the back.
What happened has to be analysed and put behind. There is Capt Eziekel in less than a couple of months. So please for your sake square away your P34 sight problems ON PRIORITY.

As an example of overcoming adversity, Karoly Takacs has few peers. He was part of Hungary’s world champion pistol-shooting team in 1938, when an army grenade exploded, crippling his right hand. Ten years later, having taught himself to shoot with his left, he won two gold medals in the rapid-fire class.

hey agn
good show bhai. knowing ones mistakes and accepting them takes courage and learning from them is the surest way to improvement. i am sure u will do well in capt e coming up.
i have myself hit a snag. went to the JDA range on sat and started practicing. first two shots 9-8 and suddenly the trigger stopped operating. the pressure buildup in the gas cylinder is fine. the trigger just refuses to click. so need to send the izy to delhi for repair. so many days without prac. hey gurujano pl advise how does one remain in touch in absence of the ap

@FF - U r right. Procrastination has become a bane. Will have the AP looked at by the good Doc and then will take up with either Vishwajit or Nilesh should new sights be needed.
@Jitu - That's a bummer. Izzy is known for its seals popping off; but trigger not working is a new one for me. I will check with Vishwajeet - at Savarkar Range last two years I have seen a single pump FWB AP (exactly akin to IZZY) lying there that has an identical problem. May be he can guide in what the problem is. In fact I am wondering if I should get me an Izzy or an IHP PCP AP as a second/ backup AP for practice. Can't lug the IHP .22 break barrel to the range. You are right - time to slough off rather than slow off. Get another chance at Capt EZ for AIGVM. If I miss that , it's another year wasted and awaited.
Son's upanayam/ munj tomorrow. Planning to start the 37th Chamber of Shaolin soon.
@tirpassion/ hvji guruji -> Any chance of either of you being in Mumbai/ Pune in next two months ? Or even Satara/ 'Nagar is OK for me to come to. A physical checkup would go a long way in helping me to iron out faults in me.

Re: Tips on Pistol Shooting
Dear agn,
I would so much love to meet you all!!! But alas... My next trip to India is in my hometown Kolkata in August with wife and children. Then it is in November but in Kerala. No Mumbai in sight till now .
By the way, did you do your match analysis and write it down in the diary? Please do it when the memories are still fresh. With this experience, you will be better prepared for the next important match.
And do not forget to post tell us all your score in MAWC.
But for the moment, forget everything and enjoy the family function
best regards
