What on earth is Deal Wood? And what is a Deal Wood test? And why on earth does it matter?
Seriously... I know nothing about airguns and havent shot an airgun in about 30 years...

Going by all this, I'd suppose a RWS 350 Magnum or Diana Airking 54 shooting .22 @ about 850fps will "fail" the test?!

I guess the original answer has not been given yet. I want to import an airpistol with 600-700 fps speed and will be spending a great deal of fortune for this. By no means I want the gun to be confiscated at the customs office. So can any body please post a number( how much fps) that will fail the test. Let me remind the others, the pistols have to pierce a 1/2 inch wood NOT 1 inch thick wood. (1 Inch is for air rifles).

CHeers :)

Probably because single answer in fps does not exist. There are so many variable parameters(projectile shape, weight, material, velocity, variations in the hardness of deal woods) in the equation when the "deal wood" test is done.

Anyways this person has given an idea that the deal wood test may fail for .177 pellet weighing 7 grains and shooting more than 500 FPS http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php ... 85#p162334

In Deal Wood test competition pistol or air-rifle only pass by because in competition they use around 4 to 4.8 grain pellets.simple the sports rifle could fire a 7 grain pellets at 400 to 450 fps.But here our friends import like marauder or evanix which could fire 10 grain pellets at 950 to 1050 fps now you know what will be result.

Hi !

I am in the process of the test for which 12 inch by 12 inch by 26mm thick imported pine wood was procured.

In all 6 such sample pieces will be used to determine the penetration test to qualify the air rifle .

Chennai has a test facility in the police department . So does Pune.

Will give a feed back all in good time to you folks....... With good news......

Regards....... Shankar

Sorry to reanimate a dead thread, but I was curious if Shankar Sir managed to do those tests he promised :) Is the Dealwood test still in operation? (I don't see why not, but just curious)
