Remington Sportmaster 512 with Scope

Sorry for missing the questions -- the rifle is a Winchester Model 52. As Winnie points out, the scope is a Lyman. My brother has one just like this, but with a Unertl scope. In the old days, the adjustments were external -- you see the knobs on the back mount. Also as Winnie says, the spring was to return the scope to its firing position after recoil.

There is a difference in the way chambers are cut in normal 22s and target 22s, which makes a difference in accuracy. If one has a 22 that will shoot penny-sized groups at 100 yards, that is a one-in-a-million gun!

XL, thank you for that tip on the Tasco scope. I have a 22 that one of those would sit very nicely on!

Great guns, I have a Rem 511 which has the clip magazine. The stock is made for a full size adult, it comes up and fits nicely.

Hi I am in a process to buy a 512 sports master .22 Rifel, its also 95% origional, plz suggest the price and i have heard that K.F ammo gets stuck in the tube mag, is it true, is it worth buying as i really like the rifel as is almost brand new.

The Sportmaster 512 costs less than a Bruno. Such a rifle in good condition should come for around Rs 90,000. You have to practice a bit in the smooth operation of the bolt, then even IOF ammo won't get stuck. The Remington Arms Co. manufactured approx 3.9 lakhs 512s between 1942 to 1967. Had it been a flawed action, they wouldn't have managed to sell it for a quarter century!

It is a lovely little rifle, you will like it.

Thanks a lot have bought the rifel last week, dead accurate and no ammo stucking prob..
bought it a little expencive as it was almost brand new not even 50 rounds fired.

It really is a decent scope for a rimfire. I have seen comments about it where people compare it favorably to scopes costing many times what this one costs.

I am using a Leupold VX-II Ultralight 3-9x33 EFR scope... which I bought from Amazon couple of months back for USD 340...I use this with an Anschutz .22 rifle. I have found this scope to have excellent low light quality and clarity, also this was reasonably priced as compared to other scopes from Leupold.
I felt that staying in India, there is a major limitation on the availability of good weapons. Thus, I did not want to compromise on the quality of the scope, that was my view, but to each its own.

I must say, the features of the Tasco scope as mentioned by xl_target for the price is outstanding.

Thanxs everyone for your suggestions! The local arms dealers were asking astronomical sums for scopes. So I bought a Barska 4x32 scope through e-bay. It cost me Rs 4200, the scope arrived from USA in little over two weeks days of placing the order. So far the results are good. I could do 1inch group at 50 mtrs. Will upload target pictures later.

The later models comes with factory cut 11mm rails on the breech face. I had no issues at all, the rings supplied with the scope fitted tightly on them. I purposefully handled the rifle roughly, but the 'zero' still holds

Receiver grooves on US .22 RF rifles are 3/8" (9.5mm), versus 11mm on European guns. Not all mounts are interchangeable.

Re-checked, you are right! I stand corrected, it is 9.5 mm grooves.
