.22 Anschutz model 54

Dear All,

I have been looking to buy a good .22 (either a Brno or a Anschutz) and it’s been an exercise in futile for me. The next best option for me it to modify the Anschutz .22 model 54 that i have. The rifle is a bull barrel single shot rifle, and my use is just plinking in the field. I find the rifle to be heavy and would appreciate ideas to reduce the weight. I tried changing the stock to reduce weight but it did not help.
Would request the gun gurus here to help me out please… requirement being to reduce weight and make it a 5 shot if possible…thanx

No one is obliged to answer anything on this board as it is designed just for free knowledge sharing.
At times people may not have the answer to your specific query and so you may need to have a little patience.
You have a lovely target rifle and it is heavy for a reason, to shoot dime sized or less groups at fifty meters.
Leave it as it is or sell it and then buy a repeater, the rifle is too immaculate at the moment to mess with.

Single shot, bull barrel .22 rifle. I guess it was made for bench rest shooting. Changing the stock won't help to reduce the weight unless you are some kind of nutnfancy guy screaming Ounces dude, the ounces. In your rifle the barrel is the heaviest part. IMHO if you get it replaced with a normal barrel instead of a bull one it'd help but my suggestion is instead of 'butchering' a beauty, get a new IOF .22 or a Brno rifle. Brno rifles are getting hard to find now-a-days though.

As Dev mentions, one reason that you are not getting an answer is that you already have a rifle that every .22 LR enthusiast would want. It's like saying; "hey guys, I have a race car but it goes too fast, help me slow it down".

Seriously, you have a very nice rifle. Please don't change a thing .

54 Anschutz is intentionally designed for target shooting, that's the reason it is having a heavy barrel,

one should not try any DIY attempts to modify a specifically designed weapon, rather I would go for IOF or Brno for lighter option

@ xl target … agreed I have the race car but I don’t have the roads to race it on …So looking for a jeep it is…

Thank u guys for ur inputs… itz just my local gunsmith want to lighten the weight by filing of the barrel daimeter n add a mag to it…

Thou I too don’t want to spoil the originality of the weapon… so that’s why was asking for advice

You have yourself a fine rifle. My two cents please do not make any mods on it.

BTW - I dont mind a swap...but, I only have a Benjamin Discovery to swap with...

Or I can buy a IOF 0.22 in exchange...

All of the above.

You can take a lighter scope as well. You dont need such a heavy duty scope. Try any of the fixed mag or you can try Leupold vx1. Good for rimfires.

You have an Anschutz and you want a Brno ? Seriously ? Please do not butcher the stock to reduce the weight. The rifle is probably a target rifle and is hence heavy. Why get into plinking when you have a proper target rifle....get into 50mtr prone instead of plinking.....It will be more fun........

i would suggest you not to meddle with the rifle ,unless you know a competent gunsmith.if you can't get a brno,go for indian made .22.you will like it for sure.

This rifle is very famous here in the US. Especially in the NRA smallbore rifle competitions. Hopefully I will find mine soon.
