Hello Everybody,
I am planning to take some lessons in Trap here in the US and will get into the sport. The thing that worries me is, what will I do when I return to India after couple of years??
How do I get into the sport when I return to India ? I am from Mumbai, are there any Trap shooters from Mumbai ? So far I only keep hearing about Dr. Karni Singh range in Delhi that has Trap facilities
I am planning to bring in a shotgun under TR but then I don't have a license yet and I am here in the US. So to me this is a chicken and egg problem.. I have read a lot about it in the Legal forum and pretty much know the stuff but here is what I am thinking..
I will be visiting India before I move for good so I am thinking of applying for a license at that time.
This is my strategy:
- Rake up as many competition achievements as possible here.(US)
- Apply for license when I visit India for 3 weeks.
- Use the sports achievements in the license application to make it stronger.
- Try to make as much progress as possible in 3 weeks and get an interview appointment at least.
- If I get the license then may be visit back one more time and do all the necessary things..
- Get the shotgun on TR.
Please let me know about 2 things:
1) Steps to get into the sport in India for an absolute beginner in India.
2) Does the above strategy look feasible ? please feel free to suggest change.
Thank you guys.

Re: Beginner Trap in Mumbai(India)
The strategy to import looks fine, pls search the forum, there are pretty detailed process given by members.
Now how to get into the sports in india.
Not sure of mumbai range, but in delhi yes you have karni range and there you have pay and play scheme, so getting the membership is not difficult.
Next step is getting the ammo and the birds, so for that you need to catch hold of some one at that range. Usually you will have some fellow shooter who can help you in this. Most renowned shots do sell the ammo and you have some one selling the birds too.
Birds you can also buy from NRAI, but for that again you have to either catch hold of some member who can buy for you or become member, which is like shelling out another 27K i think, and getting hold of atleast 2 life member to fwd your membership
I would recommend that practice as much can in US, come to india and visit the range, try liaising with some shooter. Word of caution, there many out there who will rob you like anything and sell bird and ammo at crazy rates. , but general its a helpful community.

Re: Beginner Trap in Mumbai(India)
wow.. Do I have to buy clay birds from NRAI or some member? even that is not manufactured by any local company ? or the govt. also has a quota on that ? man.. why the whole thing is so difficult ...? we are 1000 years behind as far as shooting sports go
