Shot my first double rifle today....
.... and it happened to be a William Evans chambered for .375 H&H Mag.
The owner wanted to try some handloads at 100 yards rather than the regulation 50 yards but I still managed a 2 shot 4" group. The rifle was rested on the top of his car and the muzzle blast was such that it blew away the plastic trim.
Excellent experience!

No pics, Vikram. Whilst this, the Darne and the .244 H&H Mag (discussed in earlier threads) belong to an IFG member, I am not sure he would like to see pics of his guns plastered on the internet.
The recoil is very manageable. From a free standing position, it should be even more so. It's extremely fast or more accurately, it's the fastest recoil I have felt. It does not hurt in the least. Infact the blast felt on the face whilst standing behind and to one side is more impressive

Hehehe...it never occured to me to check that.Hope you didn't scald the paint off the car.

Handloads refer to non-factory loaded rounds. My friend does his own loading.
Many moons back, you may recall, that I had asked about the availability of IMR 4350 in India. He wanted it for the double and the .244 H&H Mag reloads.

Congratulations Mack The Knife!
I can imagine your smile - would make the Cheshire cat jealous if it saw you after you shot the gun.
Cheers!

Asif,
You are the last person who should be jealous. Jammy git.
One thing I did not enjoy was the barrel temperature. I took two shots after my friend (I think you may have figured out who I am refering to) shot about six times.
Coming from an airgun background, it still amazes how hot barrels can get.

Re: Shot my first double rifle today....
Mehul,
After reading about double rifle this and double rifle that on AR and NE, it certainly felt like a bit of an achievement when I finally got to shoot one.
Just after shooting, I had a huge grin because my friend pulled a fast one on me. He walks upto the target whilst I look through the scope (empty rifle) and points to two holes about an inch apart almost bang in the centre. I did not quite understand what he meant by that, so when he comes back I ask him and he says those were my two shots. To say I was stunned would be an understatement.
I tell him to go back and get the target, because I want it signed and witnessed and want to put the pic on IFG. It's only then that he starts laughing and tells me only one of the shots in the centre was mine whilst the other was 4" to the left. Talk about feeling elated and then thoroughly deflated in the matter of 5 to 10 minutes.

A few years back a frend purchased a DB rifle 375 H&H Magnum and purchased about five hundred 375 H&H Magnum Flanged rounds for it. Rather ammo came first and rifle was purchased later. ....The rifle I think has been sold but the ammo is still lying with (a dealer). If you are interested I cud surely check its availability.

Its not or lets say was not very difficult to load the flanged 375 ctges. A friend, I remember would buy normal rimless rounds for the powder and reload the flanged shell with 10% less load. I wonder where he obtained the Berdan primers from. It wasn't that difficult pre 9/11 days, I guess. He ws quite happy with the grouping as well at 100yds. One does come across some vintage 375 H&H flanged ammo, but it has more of collectors value now.
