Navy SEAL accidentally shoots himself in head

Post by hellfire_m16 » Fri Jan 06, 2012 12:17 pm

San Diego: San Diego police say a Navy SEAL is on life support after accidentally shooting himself in the head.

Officer Frank Cali told U-T San Diego that officers were called to a home in Pacific Beach at about 2 am on Thursday on a report that a man had been playing with a gun and accidentally shot himself.

Cali says the man was showing guns to a woman he'd met earlier at a bar and put a pistol he believed was unloaded to his head. Cali says he then pulled the trigger.

In a statement, Commodore Collin Green says the Naval Special Warfare community is saddened by the incident and extends "our hearts and prayers" to the family in this difficult time.

Rule No. 1 - All guns are loaded, always.
Rule No. 2 - Never let your muzzle cover anything that you are not willing to destroy
Rule No. 3 - Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target.
Rule No. 4 - Always be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

Looks like all four were broken here.

AK27,
Maybe we should add a sixth rule.
Don't handle guns after you have been drinking as it might make you forget the first four rules. :)

Sure we should sir!!
Nevertheless, those rules are exceptionally well-crafted and they do keep the follower absolutely out of trouble. Thanks to Jeff Cooper for devising them and good people like you for quoting them often. :D

Jeff Cooper may have stated those rules, but he certainly wasn't the first one to devise them.

Hammerhead, couldn't agree with you more. But the sad fact is, that nowadays any lack of common sense, or pure stupidity with sad consequences, becomes an "accident". Or better yet, an "avoidable accident". No one is responsible for anything anymore. Hence the nanny state.

It is a wake up call, when we become experts in any feild we start taking things for granted. But this incident is crazy.
