hey tirpassion
that seems to be nice idea. i try not to shoot more than once or twice a week as has been directed by hvj. but some times temptation overcomes me and i feel like taking ,lets say, 20 shots, but if i score less it is very demotivating. guess i could think on such occasions to shoot those odd Nos, unless i am able to control this temptation

Hello Tirpassion and Jitu.
It is advisable NOT to score during the match, you should score AFTER the match or the practic session. It is also important to take a benchmark score in a practice session, then work on different elements,(box drilling ) achieve 100% and then shoot three matches back to back.

Hello Jitu,
Even if its 5 shots on a card, you can shoot on a card, remove it and keep it facedown. Put the next card, repeat the first step, till you have run out off frsh cards, then start recycling cards with one shot and so on till you have cycled all your with 5 shots each.

Hello hvj,
Sir, I would request you to please clarify my doubts about the 30 sec shot cycle mentioned in the last page.

I am regularly working on the figure '8's (50 reps) and the SA box drill (50 reps). Hovering around 96%. The highest being 98% once and lowest 94% once in the last 5 drills. I am yet to achieve the 100% mark. This is the update for your kind information.

warm regards

hey hvj
since i was myself not convinced of my timing and the cards issue i did a full shoot with 40 cards today. results
1. took 1hour and five minutes to finish
2. took a break after 20 shots to move around and ease my shoulders, especially because my second set again was bad
3. in the second set i got one bad shot, next i cancelled because i felt uneasy and when i took it, it was again a bad shot, third shot in a row went bad(all 8s) i took a 1 min break and shot again
4. realised that my hold tends to shift a bit in my last two shots of a set especially because shoulder tires and the movement for cocking a single shot pneumatic tends to give jhatka
5. overall scores were 91, 88,90,92
6. i feel i need to do more fig 8s to strengthen the shoulder and need to incr my % of SA. it is still hovering around 88% to 85%
7. trigger finger went to sleep in the 2nd set. need to keep my hand relaxed probably hand was too tensed after my first set.
comments please

I would need some clarifications on this statement. When you say that the shot cycle should not exceed 30 sec ideally, do you mean the whole SOA and the execution of the shot in 30 secs? There must be some time after the execution of shot to breathe and rest before starting the new cycle. I understand that you are are keeping this time apart. Am I mistaken?
Hello Tirpassion,
No you are not mistaken, :) The time for rest is kept apart, but even this is around 2-3 seconds only. That too initially, The cycle continues without much of a break actually, the only respite you get is during the visualisation phase, which could be tad bit longer , say by a couple of seconds?

1. took 1hour and five minutes to finish
Thats quite okay.
2. took a break after 20 shots to move around and ease my shoulders, especially because my second set again was bad
Happens initially, for a 40 shot match you should have regular standard practice session of at least 60 shots.
3. in the second set i got one bad shot, next i cancelled because i felt uneasy and when i took it, it was again a bad shot, third shot in a row went bad(all 8s) i took a 1 min break and shot again

4. realised that my hold tends to shift a bit in my last two shots of a set especially because shoulder tires and the movement for cocking a single shot pneumatic tends to give jhatka
Are you doing sufficient number of push ups?
Do you warm up before the match?
5. overall scores were 91, 88,90,92
decent enough
6. i feel i need to do more fig 8s to strengthen the shoulder and need to incr my % of SA. it is still hovering around 88% to 85%
NO, YOU MUST ACHIEVE 100 %.
7. trigger finger went to sleep in the 2nd set. need to keep my hand relaxed probably hand was too tensed after my first set.
Dont worry too much about it.

thx hvj
to answer your queries
yes i do enough pushups. but the cocking action of the IZH tends to give jhatka. cant be helped till i get a pcp
i am keeping up the prac of SA and as informed earlier have reached 90-92%. will keep up till i reach 100%
i tend to spoil my second set. i dont know why. is it beacause after the first set i tend to become too tense. any idea what is the highest one can achieve with IZH.

Dear hvj and all friends,

Another update.
I have worked and I am working on lightening my SOA in order to speed up the cycle. I have also concentrated on the trigger control (I have started to descend to the aim zone with the 1st trigger pull already executed so as to reduce the release time).

Day before yesterday, I did an SOA drill during a live local level club match. 3 sighter shots + 60 shots. The result is 57/63 which is around 90%. The result of the match is as follows.
93, 92, 95, 94 ( 374/400 in 1h03m), 93 and 96 = 563/600 in 1h32m
This is my best score ever in an unofficial match.

I was doing well, with my diary open in front of me to remind me the things to do. I kept on doing my SOA drill very well. It was hardly a match. At some point of time (in the 5th series), I shot three 10's one after another and found out that I was left with only 12 shots. The percussion and drum concert began in my heart because I started anticipating a good result. I was so near to the end to find myself in the glory of that good result. DARK thoughts invaded me and I forgot the good work.
I shot three 8's one after another.
I went to take rest and started to self talk to convince me again. I told myself that there are 9 shots left and you will have to shoot 9 'tens'. After about 5 minutes break, I went back. The heart concert was still on but my determination was there too. I started again. The last 9 shots.
10, 10, 10, 10, 9, 10, 9, 10, 10
I could not achieve the nine 10's but I was very happy that I could do the good work. But I was drained out in the last ten minutes. I carried a bottle of 500ml of water which was already siphoned earlier. I would need to take more water on me next time.

My sincere gratitude to you hvj1

best regards

Re: Mental Training for Sports & General Life.

Dear everyone,

No updates in this thread since long. So I decided to talk about my experiences on the Relaxation Response.

I have been regularly doing the exercise since three weeks with 3 or 4 gaps in between. This is what I have experienced.
- My regular normal heartbeat used to be around 63/64 when I was young (I am 39 now). In the recent years it has gone up to 72. (Life has a lot of stress for nothing here). After 3 weeks of exercise, I am realizing that it has gone down to the 60 to 63 level again.
I was curious to see a few days back what it was just after my return from a 35 minutes of rapid walk. I was amazed to find it at 68.
- This is the real feather on the cap.
I have had a few natural compliments from my better half that she finds me to be a different man suddenly. She said that she found a new husband in me. Now that calls for CHAMPAGNE!!!

POP goes the cork!!!

best regards
