Hi Friends,
I just bought a .22 Brno mod 2. Its a 73 make but in a very good condition. The shopkeeper says that the blueing and polish etc are original. He is asking for 2.7 lakhs. When i tried to negotiate he said that its a 9 groove rifle whereas the others are 6 grooves. Am confuesd about the groove thing. Could anyone guied me with the same. Is the price ok. Also wanted to know that is there a way to find out the year of make of Kriko.22 rifle

The dealer may be telling the truth as I too have Model 2 that was built in 1972 and has more then six grooves. Brno did come out with a batch of .22 LR rifles with barrels which is generally known as Micro Grooves. Mine too is in pristine condition with original bluing and all. The prevailing price.....I cannot comment on as I have this beauty since 1972. Another characteristic of the barrel being that it starts tapering gently towards the muzzle. The scope mount grooves on the receiver too are wider then general tip off kinds but wee bit narrower then the usual standard American size.

Standard American groove size for tip-off mounts on .22 RF rifles is 3/8", whereas for European rifles is it slightly larger, almost 7/16", at 11mm. What are you referring to with "usual standard American size"?

2.7 lakhs for a Mod2? Wow. I sold mine for 10K in '03. Then again all my weapons went for a song.

Mayank/Two Rivers,
Well, my Brno Mod.2 happened to have 5/8" (.614")dovetail which is approximately 15-16mm. I managed to get the right mounts from London called Hillver Scope Mounts Item # 2096N made in Australia. The sales person exactly knew what I was looking for as the dovetails in the later models were reduced to 3/8" to suit American tip off mounts. Model 1973 in all probabilities will take these 5/8" mounts. Still better to check the dovetails out with a caliper.

MoA, I bought mine for 3k in 1972 and my shooting buddies blamed me for inflating the market.

Thankyou friends for your replies. But one question remins unanswered. How do i know the year of make for the kriko.22. As far a the prices goes i had been following more of bronos in Bangalore and Delhi. I was quoted 4 lakhs for a box piece same model rifle.

. Taken that into account its a good deal I feel.

friend,
brno is a fantastic weapon.its good that you are going for it,one of my friend bought a brno model 2 for 2lacs from an armoury in banglore 3 months ago.
try to negotiate for 2.25 to 2.5 lacs,if you have seen the gun in person and satisfied.

Yes, the Brno differs in having 16mm (.630") dovetails. They would not be 5/8" (.625"), but metric. Since the contured receiver configuration of the Brno differs from the typical tubular receiver of most other .22s, there is really no comparison as far as scope mounts are concerned. Brnos had those dovetails long before American .22s started to be cut for "tip-off" mounts.

If you really, for whatever reason, need to know the date your rifle was manufactured, go to www.Krico.de, and contact them with the serial number of your rifle.

Dear Jaiswal

I don't understand logic behind paying such a high/nonsense price for brno..22
though its a good rifle, practically it seems to look for other options which are not so heavy on the pockets.

I was also in the hunt for Brno few years back, then good advise from well wishing friends changed my mind.

I bough IOF .22 cal rifle for Rs. 35K and saved for ammo.

there is a thread on this forum for modification of IOF .22 ( you can do it by own or good gunsmith can be helpful for few grands)

I can shoot Tea cups at over 75 yds with iron sights(with KF Ammo), good scope and ammo can prove actual potential of the rifle at 100-150 yds

what more you want from under 50k rig

Mr.Patel,
It's a matter of choice for an individual. There are cheaper watches that are as accurate but people still go for Rolexes and Omegas, don't they? One cannot impose one's individual sense of aesthetics on to others I reckon. I could have bought something within 1K then but still went for Brno, in spite of the relatively steep price then. Also, for some, it's long nurtured dream to possess certain things in life and nothing wrong if one decides to fulfill it.
As for IOF .22 rifles, they are pretty accurate and would never dispute that. But appearance, less said the better.
I wonder when they decided to ape a CZ rifle, what prevented them from going all out. I am certain had it been 10k more expensive,people would have still bought them .

Absolutely right,

I did't intend to put my views over some one's personal preference,( apologies for unintended expression of my personal views)

BTW, I did paid in 2005 ,3.5 Lac for near mint condition ( fired only few times by original importer) walther PP 7.65 Cal, it was my personal pref.

That walther is a steal deal i would say. PPK is going around for anything around 8 to 10 lakhs
