Happy Independence Day to all

Post by Priyan » Mon Aug 15, 2011 2:36 am

Wishing happy Independence Day to all IFG member. 65 years ago on 15th of August, 1947 we finally got our 'freedom' from British. So enjoy and stay safe. In my state almost all the people stays indoor this day due to fear of terrorists, for me it's just another "Assam Bandh" I'm wondering if the situation is same all over India or just in my state.

Think again this day, are we getting the freedom we were hoping for?
When I'll get to shoot a gun?

Happy Independence Day.
Priyan . Your post reminds me of Ravendranath Tagore poem which I read way back in school.

WHERE the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

Happy Independance Day all!

Nice photos Raju, except that everyone has seen the Iwo Jima photo and knows what it is.
The Indian flag looks improper in that photo.

Here is a tune that always brings a lump to my throat

Raju,
Ami onek din dhore Bangla kota bolini. Amar mukh theke thik beroche na.

Gentlemen, pardon the Bengali but I have not spoken it for so long that I have a very hard time speaking it anymore. Even though my father is from Kolkata and I lived there for a couple of years and could speak it well, reading and writing Bengali was only taught to me in 8th Std as a third language. So Raju, I'm sorry but I did not pay attention to what you had written when I posted the video.

in India laws are neither respected nor enforced properly IMHO that's the main problem. There are enough laws to prevent corruptions and bandhs but they aren't enforced properly. That's why I'm not in the mood to support Lokpal bill.

Raju,
I did my 8th, 9th and 10th (ICSE) at Frank Anthony.
I was staying at my grandparents for part of the time on Upper Circular Road (now A.P.C Road) near Manicktala.
My last year or so there, my father had been transferred to Kolkata and we lived at a military housing complex called Jubilee Lines (near Ft. William).
From the roof of our building at Jubilee Lines, one could see the white marble dome of the Victoria Memorial glowing at night.

You must watch Jan Gan Man-Indian Army.flv (You Tube)
It has been shot in Siachen. The highest battlefield in the world.
Where more men die due to cold injuries than the enemy bullets.

P.S. Can some one put up the video here.
