Carrying a licensed firearm within the approved area
Hi ,
just wanted to clarify a point . I presently have a 4 state license for all three weapons that I own . Wanted to know from the legal experts on what the law says about self declaration to the police station of your destination . Is it mandatory ?
For example , I have a license for my handgun for Delhi , UP , UT and Haryana . If I were to do a ten day road trip covering different cities in these 4 states , by law , do I have to go to the police station of every town that I spend my nights in and declare that I have a license and am carrying . Is this supposed to be done ? If yes , alternately can I drop them a postcard saying that I shall be visiting and carrying ? what does the law say about this ?
Cheers

Why do you have to make a declaration/s at every police station within the area validity of your license? It does not make any sense to me. You already have been clearly authorized on the license to posses the firearm within that area. AFAIK only if you change your residence then you have to inform local police station within one month of change of residence or get the license registered with the local licensing authority. Since you are only traveling within the area validity of your license, you do not have to make any "declaration" about it within the area of validity.

Thanks guys . I had earlier read somewhere on this forum that you need to inform the local police station if you are staying at that place for more than 24 or 48 hrs .

Joydeep,
If one decides to stay put on a particular address in any of the states for a considerable amount of time, say 3 to 6 months or more, then it is advisable to inform the police station that falls in that jurisdiction by letter or personally. This enables the authorities to trace the movement of fire arms as they do not trust their bona fide citizens even after issuing Arms License to them, looks like.

Joydeep,
Check the terms and conditions page of your arms license and you will have your answer.
