Re: IFG Not opening on my Computer
you can lease the line from BSNL for 1L and it will work OK. that ,what many private companies do. I used airtel for some time, and I got 2mbs speed, for what I paid, same ping and rout such a surprise. BSNL give good service for corporates and for ADSL customers, what ever remains - balancing load and rerouting all the time. I got now another connection from small company 500 rs less and twice more speed. if bsnl is only option it is OK, otherwise what a point.

OK Folks, this is what the Admin had to say

Hope this helps those who are facing problems.Since it is a server change AND since the server is located in INDIA, the problem is most probably related to their ISP DNS server not refreshing to the new location. A quick and permanent fix is to switch from using the default ISP DNS server to OpenDNS or something similar. OpenDNS is free (see http://www.opendns.com/ ) and offers other browsing benefits as well.
Also, due to the change in geographic location of the server - the site would now be loading much faster for people located within India but may have slowed down for those overseas. Since 90% of traffic is from India, this should not be a major issue but can possible be irksome for some overseas users.

Re: IFG Not opening on my Computer
For the past few days, IFG has been slow to load on my comp. I have taken to opening IFG as the first site when I start a session, then finishing all other work / browsing and then checking back on IFG, and sometimes, it is still to load. I just get a white IE screen, with the loading animation on the left of the tab going round and round. Sometimes, I see the handgun icon, but the page is still blank. Its like a flashback to 1996 and I am using a dial up connection to log in to hotmail at a friend's netcafe in Pune
What works sometimes (works = page has loaded by the time I finish my other browsing) is searching for indiansforguns plus any other term on google, and then using that search result to visit IFG. Once IFG has loaded, the rest is pretty smooth.
Server location should not impact page loading times, atleast not so much. Also, I dont think we had this problem before for Indian traffic when the server was presumably not based in India.
Asking users to switch to OpenDNS or something similar isnt very helpful, I for one have no idea what it is, or how to change it.
Maybe this is one more thing to ignore or tolerate, and after some time, it will go away... like most things IT

Thanks buddy! But I still am thinking about buying a new modem as adviced by you as my internet is still slow.OverUnderPump wrote:Glad to know that you are back in business, Ticky.

When I spoke to the BSNL guys who came to my place to reconfig the modem, told me that this particular model of modem that I have, have some complaints and adviced me to request their senior incharge to have it replaced with another model. When I spoke to the person incharge, he said they were out of stock. So, here I am confused and don't know what to do.

Re: IFG Not opening on my Computer
I am presuming that this "OpenDNS" is some sort of security service, where one directs all DNS queries to this company and they return resolved names that meet some sort of security criteria, while not resolving those that are questionable in some way.
By now, more than enough time should have passed for the DNS update for the new server to have propagated throughout the www. I will say, every now and then, I have seen what appears to be the server IFG is running on go unavailable at times. From what my very unscientific data shows (just impressions! ;-D), it doesn't last for more that a minute or two, More inconvenient than debilitating, in other words.
If things continue or get worse, there may be some ways to track uptime and see just how available the server is, and if there are problems, maybe get an adjustment on the hosting bill.
Just a thought.

In response to recent hacking attacks by Indian Hackers on various Pakistani universities, it is said that Pakistan Cyber Army was able to hack into BSNL website, largest and state owned telecom company of India.
According to “The Hacker News”, PCA claims to have penetrated into BSNL’s website and had access to data of some 10,000 customers; which includes names, emails, phone numbers.
Hacker News said that PCA also managed to grab VPN detail of circuits and as well as more technical details which appears as crucial information for streamlining the network.
PCA released the screens of the admin panel of BSNL’s website.
If you are just wondering why activity amongst the hackers is high lately, then it’s the month of August; when hackers get active and hack website of opposite country. It gets worse at times, but usually the senior hackers calm down the situation.
This BSNL incident is termed as a high value hack. Indian hackers might retaliate by trying Pakistani telecom companies, so it’s time for scaling up the security.
Unlike previous announcements, PCA didn’t announce this hack on their website. Instead, the hacker group said that they don’t own any Facebook page.

Re: Pakistan Cyber Army Hacks into Indian BSNL
That's not that tough thing to do, There was a SQLi in the BSNL page and anyone could exploit that. I mean even the skids as there are automatic tools for that. But shame on BSNL for not fixing this sooner. BTW this cyberwar thing is total bullcrap, I found out a few Pakistani ISPs who have vulnerabilities in their server but instead of exploiting them, I reported them about it. If anyone need some proof they can PM me, some are going to make youSubal das wrote:another good reason do not use BSNLol

Re: IFG Not opening on my Computer
may depend on how you going to interpret it. fact is it is regular attacks. Many years ago, only I launched web site of one Indian hospital, on Indian hosting provider net4domains (something like that) it was defaced in first few days, provider has unpatched FTP daemon. they put some propaganda instead of hospital web site. Of course there is no any army in conventional form, but there should be some hack forums and different individuals ready to spend their time. that is what called network wars, run by cells of groups without centralized command, but with common cause. that term network war not necessary refer to internet. rather it reflect organizational structure, and it is very hard to defeat. Once you cut one head three new are ready. It can go one or just be a one time campaign. Example, currently ongoing trial in US on "hackers" orchestrated DDos on Paypal. Young minds getting trapped into this mess of hate.cyberwar thing is total bullcrap
