I'm posting this here so as not to hijack the original thread.

Fellow member Subal das posted on a subject he saw in Guns Magazine. In looking at this, I found that Guns Magazine has a digital edition that you can view online:

I haven't read gun magazines in general for quite some time. However, I was pleasantly surprised by looking through these issues! Many good authors are featured, such as: Dave Anderson, Massad Ayoob, and Mike Venturino. My interests are military surplus, old guns in general, and older handguns, but I also like to read about the newer stuff ("tactical tupperware," as XL calls it!) and keep abreast of new developments. This magazine seems to have all of this and it is featured in an attractive package online.

Really, this is Subal das's find. It seemed like a nice source of information to me, and I've been skimming issues for things that interest me. I've always found Venturino's stuff interesting, and Massad Ayoob has been around for a VERY long time, putting out vital and important info regarding handguns, carry, legal issues, and effectiveness. He's one guy that I stick very closely to regarding what's what.

I was very interested in Venturino's sniper rifle shootout -- especially that the Mosin 91/30 outshot the 03 Springfield, 98 Mauser, and Enfield No. 4 Mk 1. Interested, but not surprised! I am remembering that Russians are very smart and creative people, as I look at my Periodic Chart mouse pad! When it comes to guns, it can be dangerous to judge a book by its cover.

Also, I was very interested to see Venturino's writing on Black Powder Cartridge Rifle Silhouette shooting. I have a lot of lead ingots sitting out in the garage, and shoving that lead downrange with black powder sounds interesting! If I could move back to Paradise, the NRA range near Raton, NM wouldn't be very far away, either...

After reading this Digital Magazine I felt sorry for myself, felt dejected as if we are still living a life of slavery under some colonial rule . We are forces to follow the rules made by some corrupt and some not so corrupt but cunning politicians . Who have forcefully kept us away from attaining nirvana in the form of heavenly and so so beautiful weapons which are available everywhere except India. I don't know weather ever in my life time I will be able to purchase ( here in India)or bring back home a weapon purchased from abroad. I know many of my IFG friends might also feel the same but cant do anything. "God help us".

Yes you can Take up a shooting sport and hit the MQS, in fact that is how some 20k or so new guns have come into the country. As Richard Bach would say,"You are never given a wish, without the power to make it come true." So go at it Tiger, jump into the big bore competition this year, you have a load of time to get organized, it will be held in November.

Up until around 1990, I thought that Central Europe would be under the boots of bolsheviks for hundreds of years longer, and there were many people "in the know" who didn't think differently. Even the CIA was caught flat-footed.

There are many examples one could cite of people and situations turning on a dime unexpectedly.

I'd note that, even though many were resigned to the situation in Central Europe, many who lived there, like Lech Wałęsa, still worked, even under torture, to turn the situation around.

Similarly and recently in Egypt, despite the goon tactics of the oppressor, ordinary people got fed up licking the boots of the government and turned things on their ears. Of course, we still don't know what will happen to Egypt, but who would have predicted that the political landscape of the Middle East would be what it is today, back last year?

I have spent the last few days reading these magazines.
Did anyone catch that incredible Stainless CZ75 in the Sept issue? Yes, I know its a lot of Bling but it sure catches the eye.

Re: Grewal Sahib's plaintive cry; the unreasonable and totally unnecessary stand, against firearms, of successive Indian Governments has been one of the deciding factors in my continued stay in the US. The sad part is that even some of the countries behind the Iron curtain had freer access to firearms for recreation and hunting. What the British did in India (leading up to Mahatma Gandhi's famous quote) is nothing compared to what the Government of India has done to its own citizens.
Now NAGRI is the only hope for the future but NAGRi depends on our support.
