I guess not, not sure if one can get a permit for suppressors in India. I guess only in Finland and Norway suppressors are unregulated.

Suppressors for airguns which PASS the deal wood test are LEGAL, as such airguns are exempt from ALL provisions of the Arms Act.

Suppressors for firearms require a license (see listing under Schedule I & II of Arms Rules 1962), the licensing authority is listed as the District Magistrate. HOWEVER, I have NEVER seen/ heard of such a license being issued or even applied for.

why do you need a suppressor for an airgun.doesn't make much noise, compared to fire arms.silencers are ILLEGAL.so do avoid owning one.nobody is going to search your house, but just the sense of responsibility as an law abiding citizen and as an IFG'an.

A question suddenly popped into my mind. Do only IOF produces suppressors here and is importation of suppressors banned in India?

Having a suppressor is very useful. On an air rifle, it is very quite, almost like a whisper. If you are plinking, it does not irritate your neighbours and others in the vicinity. For pest control, it is a very useful tool again. On firearms, it saves your hearing and does not disturb people and animals around. It does not mean that it is completely noiseless. The sound is still loud and the sonic boom is inevitable. As Mundaire said, they are not illegal. They need a license. Having them illegally is a crime.Period. But, legal ownership should be encouraged,IMHO.

IIRC there arent' any organisations or companies that I know of, who manufacture suppressors commercially for air arms in India.

If it's a springer, they're OK but inessential.

For a PCP airgun, they are very useful. I wouldn't shoot without them

By the way, why do you think owning a legal silencer is irresponsible? You'll be saying the same about guns?

In India, you hope and pray someone is shedding off his, for a reasonable price.

Or you plan a vacation abroad.

I don't think any company in India is manufacturing them because it would hardly find any customers. Suppressor is a simple instrument that can be fabricated by any individual, provided he has basic knowledge of phyisics and some required tools. The automobile exhaust silencers are very similar in design to gun silencers. There are lot of DIY websites on internet about this topic, example http://www.gun-shots.net/make-silencer.shtml

Rraju what sort of airgun do you have? Suppressors don't make much of a difference on a springer, if you have one. You can lube a springer for a quieter operation. Suppressors work very well with Co2 and PCP air rifles. Many come with air strippers or moderators in stock form.

My impression that suppressors don't make much a diff in springers changed after handling a TX 200.
But that is totally different ball game.

And after my long winded speech  ...doubt you can buy a silencer over the counter in Kolkata.
