Wire transfer

Hello all
Can anyone let me know how make a wire transfer. I never transfered amount via wire hence the asking.Is it good to go for a bank or even a western union can do it ? I have to transfer an amount of 25k for a purchase. Anything regarding this will be helpful. Instructions, information, precautions, suggestions anything....

If you are planning a purchase from an on line store abroad ask them if they will take debit cards. Most Indian banks issue international debit cards. Would be much simpler. 25k sounds like an airgun that you are planning on.

friend,i just did it with the help of south indian bank.sent an amount of 103 euros.to walther company.i am yet to get the confirmation.this is what i did.1.you should have a invoice for what the money is transfered and the bank details2.a covering letter to the manager.3.follow up.you can call me.pm me.if you need any help.regards.

HDFC Bank has a tie-up with some bank in US - i am forgetting the name - that bank has lot many branches in US. U can easily transfer the money from HDFC bank however, i think, they insist on having account with them.

Which mode of transfer is good. Credit card or wire transfer? Here good refers to economic one.. Heard that wire transfer is charged bit heavy when compared to CC. please clarify..

Hello GB,

I made/got wire transfer from abroad. its is costly and hassle process, if you initiate a wire from india. also, if you wire the exact amount to be paid for the dealer, he will receive less amount, due to the intermediary bank charges (ex. if you pay him $150, he will get $130 - $133 only). so confirm the wire charges to the specific country you are sending the money. also mention them, the en route charge will be borne by you. so that, the bank will charge a fee and the en route charge. then your dealer will get full amount.

with my experience, credit card is far better. the extra charge of 3% (foreign currency transaction)will be levied.

by western union, you cannot send money from india. only inward remittance.

if i need to pay $150 by CC, then on the total amount i will be charged is 3%. thats all? In addition the CC usage charges extra?

Hello Green, I usually do shopping on Amazon US site. The simplest and cheapest mode is to pay through credit card. I use ICICI card. The whole transaction is secured and there is no extra charge other than the normal Dollar rate of the day when transaction takes place. And if you want to wire transfer the money then you will have to pay the transaction charges for that. Credit card transaction do not incur such charges unless specifically mentioned by the website where you are doing the transaction.

Yes greenberet, Most of the online and offline dealers charge 3% cc charge.
yes, you need to pay 3% for the total $150. But it all depends up on the dealer. Please check with your dealer.
