.30 (7.62x25) NPB OR PB

Post by nagarifle » Sat Mar 26, 2011 4:43 pm

of late i have been hearing that in some states they consider .30 and 7.62x25 as PB.

Can anyone throw some light into this please?

Both should be NPB. Enough licensees have had pistols in this calibre since the early 50's as a NPB bore.

I have heard this too but AFAIK there is neither any notification in the official Gazzette of India nor any mention in the arms law or rules. The reason such a doubt may have come about is that possibly there is a confusion about the 7.62mm NATO Rifle cartridge that is in fact a PB.

However, 7.62x25mm/7.63x25mm/.30 Mauser handgun cartridges can neither be chambered nor fired in a firearm of the 7.62mm NATO rifle cartridge, so are NP Bore.

Another reason is that there is a restriction on NSP Military firearms (usually of .30 bore) that have been issued to Officers that cannot be transferred to others, this has often been confused as .30 bore being PB.

Unless a a notification has been issued that additional calibers have been made PB,(which AFAIK none have), there should be nothing to worry about.

Anand

7.62x25 is certainly NPB without any doubt. Babus as usual do not know the meaning of NPB and PB and think their mind is the law. As per their "wisdom" any cartridge that is "weak" is NPB and any cartridge that is "powerful" is PB. The moment they come to know that the cartridge is "powerful" they try their best to unofficially declare it PB.

time to teach the babus a lesson, ie, an annual exam should be conducted to test their knowledge and clear their concepts! :deadhorse:

Absolutely NPB all 7.63 broom handles are on NPB's.The only reason that .30 carbines are PB is cause they are semiautos.
