Import handgun under TR, but I have FOID card, NO CCW?
I was wondering if it is possible to import my handgun(Non-Prohibited bore) to India under transfer of residency. As a resident of the state of Illinois(USA), I have owned FOID card for close to three years now. If this is possible, what are the legal processes in India to perform transfer of residency and how long does it take to get this done from the time me arriving in India?
Thank you.
Thank you.

yes ,i beleive you can.don't intimidate the indian authorties with this''foid''.they will sure say there's no a rule to accomodate with ''foid''.you can put it as a form of licence issued in Illinois(usa) for foreigners owning guns.if you are a legal gun owner for about an year abroad it will do,i feel.this has been discussed under ''legal eagle and rkba'',kindly go through the previous posts.god have mercy on indian arms law.good luck.

The FOID card means absolutely nothing in India. It doesn't even mean anything in any other state (in the US) except Illinois.

The TR provision requires you to legally own the firearm for minimum one year. The FOID is required in Illinois if an Illinois resident wants to own a firearm, so this document can be submitted to Indian customs in support of your TR application.
Given that you may not be an Indian citizen, and thus may not be eligible for the TR provision, or even the Indian firearms licence, I would have thought this particular bridge a long way away.

I am not sure about TR provision if applicable to non citizens but arms license can be issued to non citizens. Arms licenses are issued on basis of residence and not citizenship. As per Arms Rules 1962, Rule 17 Traveller's (temporary) license can be issued and as per Arms Rules 1962, Rule 32 arms license can be issued to tourists for bringing of arms and ammunition into India. There has also been a ruling of High Court for issuing arms license to Kenyan citizen. Reference http://indiansforguns.com/viewtopic.php ... 95#p118448

So, proof of owning a gun at least an year will not do the job?xl_target wrote:The FOID card means absolutely nothing in India. It doesn't even mean anything in any other state (in the US) except Illinois.

what he is simply saying is you can show it as evidence of legally owning a gun in the US when you apply for a TR in India. It will not substitute for an Indian gun licenseIndians4Guns wrote:

The proof required to show the above will be in the form of purchase receipts, Hunting Licenses, CCW licenses or FIOD.This is because not all states or countries of the world require licensing, but may have proof of ownership such as FIOD. For example if living in Illinois or one of the more restrictive states in the US a form of license may be available, if licensing is not required as in most states, a CCW issued by that or other states will do, if you live in Vermont which has no licensing then some other proof may be produced.
When I came on TR, I showed my recipt of purchase, Hunting licenses, CCWs ,NRA membership card, etc as additional proof that I was doing all this legitimately.
