licence

Post by prashantsingh » Mon Feb 28, 2011 10:11 pm

My rifle licence was made in 1998 for the state of Uttar Pradesh.
In August 2000 the state of Uttarakhand was carved out of U.P.
Subsequently I have been renewing my licence in Uttarakhand every 3 years.
With stricter laws today . Does my licence permit me to take my weapon with me on my trips to my farm which falls in UttarPradesh
or
is my licence only limited to the state of Uttarakhand today?

What is written on your license for area validity? If it says Uttarakhand then it is only Uttarakhand. If it says Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh then it is Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.

It says Uttar Pradesh , only. No mention of Uttarakhand.
No one has bothered to change it to Uttarakhand. Inspite of the licence being renewed a number of times in Dehradun (Uttarakhand) subsequently.
Does that mean (like I had assumed) that I can travel freely with the rifle in two states Uttarakhand and UttarPradesh?

Originally your license was issued for entire Uttar Pradesh, now if it says Uttar Pradesh only on your license and your address mentioned in the license is located in Uttarakhand, then it covers both Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. You are carrying your firearm to Uttar Pradesh because your renewed license clearly says Uttar Pradesh as the area validity. What is the offense you are doing? But if for some reason, you want area validity of both the States to be separately mentioned on your license, in that case you may have a word with the Licensing Authority.

I will never do that. For all you know they might scratch out Uttar Pradesh and write Uttarakhand instead.

Its a grey area Doc Saab... If i were u i'd let it be the way it is... i am sure no one will question its legality in uttrakhand with your license being continuously renewed in Dehradun and also the address and thana mentioned your license being uttrakhand. Now the cherry on the cake is the area of validity also says uttarpradesh... so it is legal... grey but legal... Sometimes i love our babus
I dont dial 911... I dial .357
