Buying a GSmith Crossbow
Hi fellow members,
I am new to IFG. I am planning on buying a crossbow from GSmith and I need some advise from you guys.
I went through some posts in IFG, but still I am not clear about the quality of the GSmith products.
My plan is to buy the CR-011A Cheetah model of the crossbows they have. I called them up and asked them, and they quoted 26000 + tax for the same.
Can anyone please comment on the quality of their crossbows, so that I can make a well judged decision?
Please help me out guys
Thanks in advance!
-Vivek
NB - I found a post in IFG mentioning the price of the CR-011A as 25k for the same model, but GSmith is now quoting 26k + taxes for the same. I am not sure which is the final and correct price.

Hi shadowsabhi,
Thanks for the reply!
I stay in Madurai, and their outlet is in Pune, and there is no chance of me going there. Do they have any outlets in Tamil Nadu or in Bangalore?
One more thing.. is the quality of their products really good? Just want to reaffirm myself once again.

Re: Buying a GSmith Crossbow
Hi Vivek,
I know Prasad Kulkarni and Colonel Kulkarni. I have found them to be professional, helpful and they have always given a fair price. The crossbow that you are referring to is the top of the line piece that they have. I have held it in my hand and it is a big chap. Drawing the bow is tough. You are looking at a 185 pound draw weight. In case you are looking at this as a hobby and recreation, you might want to explore the lighter draw weight ones that they have.
Even though this is the top of line crossbow in GSmith, I find that the price is too much for me. In case you are looking at a top of the line crossbow, get an imported one by spending a little more, in case you can afford this one.
Why dont you look at the other cross bows that they have? I am sure that there will be one that suits the budget and more importantly suits the use you want to put it to.
Cheers....Slingshot

Re: Buying a GSmith Crossbow
Hi Slingshot,
Thanks for the reply!
But its too late.. I just ordered it today
Anyway, since I was a kid I had been yearning to get one, and its a dream come true for me, as importing one to a city like the one in which i live, is a bit unreachable target for me.
But thanks again, and keep up the good work!!
Regards,
Vivek
NB - By the way, do you know anyone who has some broad head arrow tips, which I can use. I need to buy them, and as of now, it is not available with GSmith.

Hi Vivek,
Go for it. We all must live our dreams and if you have been yearning for one, you must get it ....After all there is a child in all of us and we must pander to our hobbies. Men must have hobbies....it keeps us out of trouble
For the broad head arrow tip bolts, I suggest that you trawl the site. Maybe Nagarifle might have some. He is offering a Hoyt Compound Bow & arrows in the Buy/Sell section. However, I suggest that you use the bolts that GSmith has. If I am not mistaken, they are made specifically for the draw length of this crossbow.
And you can always put in a note in the 'Wanted' section here and see if it is available.
Happy & safe shooting

Re: Buying a GSmith Crossbow
Hi guys..
Got my Gsmith Cr011A cheetah today. The finish is exemplary, and is in PAR with some of the good crossbows available in the market in India. I am yet to buy a cranking device for the same (I am not able to cock it easily - 185 Lbs ).
@shadowsabhi
I bought it directly from GSmith. The Kulkarnis are very good people to do business with. Prompt delivery thro a reliable cargo. But you have to bear the packing and shipping charges (which amounted to Rs.1200)
Will soon try to post pictures and reviews of the same.
Regards,
Vivek

Re: Buying a GSmith Crossbow
Hi Vivek,
Great to see the pictures. And I guess you have to work on the muscles ....Remember you heard that it is a 185 pound draw weight from me ...There is a trick though. Once you slide the foot into the stirrup, bend your knees, hold the string in both hands, keep your lower back muscles straight and straighten your legs. This means that you are drawing the string with your legs instead of your arms or back. It will draw much easier and you wont get hurt.
Hope this helps and safe shooting.

Re: Buying a GSmith Crossbow
Hi slingshot..
Initially it was a bit difficult to cock the bow (bad that i dint heed ur warning ).. but now m used to it.. I wrap a piece of cloth in my hands, and then pull the string.. and it doesnt strain my fingers this way!
And i fired some shots out of it last weekend and the arrows group fairly together (at 35 feet). I am yet to zero it completely.. theres a slight left - right zeroing error (though top-down is very good). At some point, the arrow completely went through the sandbag, and hit the wall behind and bent!! I tried uploading the photos but there is an error msg saying that the board attachment quota has been reached . Will do it sometime later..
Thanks for the reply and keep up the good work!
