With 1500 quid, the bear can buy a brace of them any time she wants. All she needs to do is dial the local Hizb commander to send a couple of fat ones to the den.AK-47s unloaded of course.1500 quid is a lot of money.cottage cheese wrote:The bear will probably be provided a job as a SPO at 1500quid a month... seeing how much food can be procured with that much money, it'll be better off in the wild feeding off hizbys....

i do know that in my part of the sticks, its not what the government banes but the village council banes and that stays banned. so much so that the local village youths will arrest and punish anyone caught hunting.

Ding, Ding, Ding. Gave the man a Gold Star!Timmy wrote:The point I'm making here is that simply restricting or outright banning of hunting is not going to be a workable solution in the end
As Timmy says banning hunting outright is probably worst thing you can do to your animal populations. One just has to look at the sorry state of wildlife in the African countries that have outright bans on hunting and compare them to the healthy thriving populations in the countries that manage their wildlife.
It might seem paradoxical that managing wildlife by allowing hunting is a good thing for a country's wildlife population but it has been proven over and over again. One example would be to look at US wildlife management programs. They have been very successful. For example, in the States of Minnesota and Wisconsin, there are more Whitetail Deer now than when the first white settlers came in on the Mayflower. While there may be other factors causing the high populations, there is no denying that successful management of wildlife is one of the better results of a well managed hunting program. This is true of most of the states in the US. Please don't think that just because one can hunt in the US, that hunters can go in and shoot anything that moves in the woods. Bag limits are set for species in a particular area so the populations can be sustained. All that is part of the wildlife management program and all those biologists and Rangers are funded because of hunting. A well managed wildlife program can guarantee that you will have sustainable animal populations forever. In America, hunters help fund that management. Fisheries management is also funded by angling fees.
It takes money to run a successful wildlife management program. Where does the money come from? In the US, it comes from fees on hunting licences and taxes on firearms and ammunition. In other words, hunters in the US pay the freight for that wildlife management. Without those dollars from sportsman, there would be a severe shortage of funds to manage wildlife. See a theme, here? Hunting is what is keeping US wildlife populations high. America has been blessed with an amazing diversity of flora and fauna but because of hunting, its possible for them to continue to flourish
Hey, don't take my word for it. Google is your friend. Take a look at Kenya before and after they banned hunting. Once a paradise for wildlife and sportsmen that produced about 70% of their tourism money, it is now faced with staggering losses in its native wildlife populations. Take a look at some of the other African countries that have banned hunting. One can blame poaching all we want but till there is money to hire and properly equip enough Forest Rangers, one is not going to be able to control poachers. Fees from hunting and arms & ammunition sales, when earmarked for conservation, can be the vehicle to do that. You will find many articles that will blame the decline in African wildlife on hunting, poachers, drought, wars, etc. What it boils down to is there isn't enough money to pay enough people to properly police the parks. Please note there is a huge difference between managed hunting and indiscriminate, unmanaged hunting.

Re: A Good Reason to Ban Hunting in India!!
man!! same argument again!!
please check other posts in this forum........and other forums please...
kenya and india are good examples of the bad effects of a blanket ban.
Please please I would really like to know ANY place in the world where a blanket ban has increased the animals.
Armchair conservationists please step outside the city and LOOk (dont see) around.
one small example: 5 yrs ago in my village it was discovered that the soil is of superior quality for making bricks. overnight 6-7 eint ka bhatta sprung up (brick kilns) now the grouse have all but disappeared from flocks and flocks of them.
100 yrs of poaching by tribals didnt do as much harm as this did in 5 yrs. I was even telling inder about it. this is one village. multiply by 1 million villages and you have India.
My armchair comrades please open your eyes it is oepple like us yes you and I who are responsible for the decrease in wild life.
YOu will say "par humney to shikar nahi ki".
Bhai we all want good woodwork in our house; teak furniture. 5-6 'palats" (plots of land), one farmhouse with a swimming pool. House in "hill station". Shitoosh shawl for wife.
India rising and shining.!!!
Yeh sab kahan se aayega? by cutting forests.
"Only after the last tree has been cut down, Only after the last river has been poisoned, Only after the last fish has been caught, Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten."
200 tigers in forest. shoot 10 every yr. for 100 centuries but the population remains the same (an example). Cut down that forest, tigers come to the villages, kill cattle.maul humans and get shot but eventually die.
Can it be any more easier to understand? world over I repeat, WOrld over hunters contribute billions to conserve wildlife.
In fact I must start a thread asking all non hunters to indicate the monay they have spent for conservation.
In fact lets have an ifg total not individual but total. lets see if all the non hunters in ifg in all their lives put together even 500 rs for conservation.
Im sure not. not because theuy dont want to but there are no channels.
1 kashmir markhor hunt in pakistan can cost more than rs 50 lakh. 80% of the money goes back to the area holding the wildlife. Im not even starting about europe/america. Using pakistan as an example because it has a system similar to ours.
Even there, the only places the wildlife population decreasing is because of poaching and deforestation. not due to hunting.
I do realise people are not aware about thesae thing due to non exposure/ mostly disintrest (many poeple here want to know about gun licenses/airguns rather than hunting), but this is not the post fow writing pages and pages of whats already there in other threads.
If anyone here still disagrees or wants to know more, there are plenty of internet resources to look up or contact any of the hunting members who im sure will be happy to discuss this with them.
Sometimes in my frustration, I can empathise with Chris Packham who said we should let the pandas die and also be realistic and accept that we cant save the tiger and rather utilise our efforts in other tasks.
Kai baar yahi lagta hai ki armchair conservationists ko samjhaney se kya fayda. "India" is not a person bent on destroying wildlife. It is made of indians like you and us. Whether we like it or not we are all working together towards destroying flora and fauna.
I am 0.00000001% of "india"; you are 0.00000001% of india ; each and every one of us is 0.00000001% of india. If we all do a thing, it results in India doing that thing. Pehley khud ko sudharo; india khud-b-khud sudhar jaayega.

Only if controlled hunting is made legal on certain abundant species that destroy crops like wild pigs etc..,And allowed to hunt with a paid permit issued by the government then all methods of illegal killing using electrical snares/poisioning by local villagers or tribals could be stopped,it is time that our grass root level Leaders, Sarpanches or Village Presidents living in those areas sustaining Wild life educate locals living there of the implications & importance of wild life Conservation.

100% true guys. The peafowl population in south TamilNadu has been decimated by smalltime chemical and dyeing industries that sprung out suddenly. Note that no one hurts the peafowls since they are the national bird and also considered religious, but still, their population diminished due to humans encroaching their habitats.
