Air Rifle shooting : Books and articles

Post by gverma » Mon Feb 28, 2011 10:39 am

Hi
In this article I will share some good books and online articles which one can read with intent of each.

In my opinion one should start reading simple books. The topic of rifle shooting can be overwhelming and complex. Read less and try more should be the motto.

The only reason we have to read books is because of lack of coaches for us. Nothing would be better if we could get coaches and I would rather do away with the books.

In any case I would suggest the following books to read

1. Rifle: Steps to Success: http://www.amazon.com/Rifle-Steps-Success -Activity/dp/0736074724 - This is a good beginner book. Read it first. It is not very detailed and doesn’t explore all kinds of forms, however it is simple. It will make you capable of reading other books.
2. WAYS OF THE RIFLE 2009 - http://www.abhinavbindra.com/Rifle2009.aspx - This is a very good book when it comes to explaining the forms and techniques. Very technical and can be overwhelming. What you need to do with this book is try one page at a time
3. Air Rifle Shooting - http://www.mec-shot.com/products/books/ ... index.html - This book is not about the technique but a lot of other things that you are supposed to know when it comes to shooting. Things like planning the month, the year. It covers many softer aspects of the game which otherwise are taught by coaches.

I have purchased the three said books. They all contain details of three positions shooting. I am however involved with standing position only. I also like to carry the books with me hence I have made photo copies of the books (standing position part) and carry them with me.

Other than this the yoga manual http://www.google.co.in/url?sa=t&source ... aeKVGLrqJg can be helpful

Hope it helps

Gaurav

Thanks a lot for the articles link. on ISSF web site ... to find something near impossible.

try yo find articles about dynamic aiming, you cant find in those books a word about it. but that is very important thing, related to analysis of best shooters on Scatt.

As an example of overcoming adversity, Karoly Takacs has few peers. He was part of Hungary’s world champion pistol-shooting team in 1938, when an army grenade exploded, crippling his right hand. Ten years later, having taught himself to shoot with his left, he won two gold medals in the rapid-fire class.
