Time limit for renewal ?

Post by veeveeaar » Sun Jan 30, 2011 9:32 am

I applied for renewal on 15 Nov.2010 ( Exp date 31Dec2010) I was asked to produce proof of residence and good conduct certificate from the Thashildar, I did so on 31.12.2010 , had my weapons and numbers checked and it is nearly a month since and i have not got my licence book or renewal order. I was checked twice at a police checkpost and managed to convince them. Can we seek a common remedy for this or set a time limit for renewal .NAGRI should take notice of this problem!

indians are lazy, kindly accept that.and they also feel that they are doing a favour by renewing a licence.no one in the dm office know about arms law;if they could give a receipt for our renewal it will be easier.

Dr. jayakumar,

Sir,I beg to differ to your generalized statement "INDIAN'S ARE LAZY ", So can not accept the Same.

As far as problem of veeveeaar,
Dear veeveeaar,
pl meet the concern clerk/officer in license dept with a request to complete the process of late renewal.
Your renewal will be done by charging late fee/penalty if required..
If problem persist, pl PM me.

with regards,

Gave mine for renewal on 08/Dec/2010, the verification was done in 3 days because I "followed it up", arms clerk tells me all the stamps have already been put but the officer is busy, will sign it in "a few days" that has been going on since the 14/Dec/2010.
Old expiry was 31/12/2010 so I gave it 3 weeks in advance so that it would be done on time. . Now the clerk promised me it would be done by Saturday(yesterday) but that he would call me once its done.
In fact this is the first time that it has taken this long. the most I have taken before this was about 5 days.
I am told that many factors such as the Telangana issue, the new policy, and also the attitude of the officer are some of the reasons that there is this delay. My friend's dad's license who is a retired DGP, his got renewed after informing that he was "so and so". But all other licenses are pending.

Just got my license from the DCP's office. Funnily only my license along with that of another IPS officer was renewed yesterday. The bloody thing took 69 days to renew. Anyway its only for 2 years.

There is no definite time limit for renewal. We have to follow it up. If there is inordinate delay, an RTI application will do the job. But thankfully, in Chennai, the arms licensing staff are very prompt. My father's DBBL licence was renewed in a month. For the IS report, a cop from the Commissioner's office rang up my dad and asked him for a convenient time to get our details (this is though a new procedure here). Seems they are creating a integrated database of arms licence holders. He turned up the same day accompanied by a local IS inspector. After chatting for a while, they handed out the form and my dad filled it up. It had about 20 to 25 questions. In another couple of weeks, a staff of the licensing section called up my dad and asked him if he could send the renewed licence by post or we would collect it in person. The next day I went there and collected it from him. No evasive replies, greasing of palms. Hope they will keep up the good image.

Isn't it quite amazing that there are two different procedures and lead times for the same task in the same State between the first and second largest cities! :(

Veeveear,
The challan receipt given after paying the renewal fee and photocopies of the application form and the licence book are sufficient. You can carry the weapon along with these documents and produce them if asked. This is what the cops themselves say.
