since i havent seen what a gun license looks like i am asking this question,if the gun license reads for NPB only and not which bores can be bought and a license holder in question is a chap on a 3 year work visit on H1B in the states, firstly
1)can he buy a 9mm there??
2)secondly our chap knows that under TR he can take only an NPB pistol with him when he heads back home but not the 9mm,say yes he bought the 9mm and a few months before leaving the states he sells off his pistol as he knows its illegal back home.
all i want to know is whether such a procedure is possible??
thank you
a clarification for my confusion

Re: a clarification for my confusion
Yes, it is possible. He can buy a 9mm here and sell it before he leaves.
Let me qualify that. What state will he be going to? Each state sets the regulations for their residents. For example if he goes some like Washington DC or New York, etc., it is going to be very difficult. If he goes to Arizona, it is easy. As a non-resident Alien, he might have to purchase a hunting licence before he can buy a firearm (depends on the state).
If bringing back a firearms on TR, he should have owned it for a year prior to his departure date from the states or he won't be able to bring it back. It's probably the best to get a licence in India before he leaves and he must remember to make provision to renew it while he is away (if it does need renewal).

Re: a clarification for my confusion
Yes, I am a citizen of India, holding an Indian passport. I am classified as a Resident Alien (hold on a sec, let me adjust my antennae) in the US.
I have been here since 1981 and have not applied for US citizenship but I believe you can apply for naturalization after being a resident alien for three years.
Also, if you serve in the US armed forces for two years, you are guaranteed US citizenship. Yes, they do have foreign nationals serving in the US armed forces. How? Haven't a clue.

Unless things have changed, the residency requirement used to be seven years before you could apply for US citizenship.
