I acquire the ideal target picture.

Ideal Target Picture or Ideal Sight Picture?
Is this getting dynamic aiming right?
What is your concept of dynamic aiming?

Dear hvj1,

I have finally made up my mind that I want to take up air pistol shooting (10m) primarily vis-a-vis air rifle shooting which I shall retain as a "side". So now I start with a clean slate and 'target' (pun intended). :) A seemingly stupid question on locking of the elbow has suddenly popped up in mind. I shall try to pose my dilemma in terms of X-Y axes (X runs left to right and Y runs top to bottom). I noticed that there are three ways to lock my elbow while keeping the wrist aligned each not far too taxing from the other two; achieved by rotation at the shoulder and subsequent 'adjustment' at the wrist.

1. Aligning with X-axis -> My elbow points to right and the hinge joint region to the left. Picture that elbow is looking to the East and the hinge joint region to the West
2. Aligning with Y-axis -> My elbow points to the bottom and the hinge joint region to the top. Picture that the elbow is looking to the South and the hinge joint region to the North.
3. Aligning in middle plane -> My elbow points to right bottom and the hinge joint region to the left top. Picture that the elbow is looking at South-East and the hinge joint region to the North-West.

BTW, though I am Right Arm Dominant, it turned out that I am Left Eye Dominant :o  :? based on procedure in this link-
http://sports.yahoo.com/top/news?slug=ycn-7367108
But if I use the "Pointing Finger Technique", the finger stays pointed with my right eye open and "shifts" to right when left eye is open - implying I am Right Eye Dominant!

Confusion hi Confusion hai
mujhe kuch pataa nahi
Left Eye - Right Hand ka kyaa mel hai
koi samjhao mujhe sahi

Q1. Which is the right way to lock the elbow ?
Q2. What is the correct "hold" when I shoot with both the eyes open or do I have to shut off my right eye ?
Q3. Will this right-left combo (RAD-LED) hinder my progress in AP/ AR shooting ?
Q4. Any idea if this 'thing' is a permanent feature or will it flip to some other combo down the years ?
Q5. Do I have to shift my shooting arm from right to left ?

Please forgive me if I sound really stupid here.

Dear KMT,
Very Happy to see your targets, as you can see for yourself- there is improvement. Now I would like you to read the lesson on Box Drills and Gripping the pistol. please get back with your feedback.
Regards

Hello AGN,
Never be afraid to ask questions however stupid they may sound to you because you will get answers which will certainly prevent you from making stupid mistakes. :D

Q1. Which is the right way to lock the elbow ?

- Grip your pistol, rest the butt on the shooting platform, Align the rear and front sights, by raising the butt from the platform and sighting along the barrel. (At this point the underside of the barrel end is lightly resting on the platform) then lock your wrist and elbow (whichever angle it assumes naturally). Maintaining this lock (wrist and elbow) and aligned sights, raise the pistol to the aiming area. Observe the position of your elbow, repeat several times, to see whether the natural position assumed, does not interfere with sight alignment nor cause discomfort. Then maintain the same elbow position regardless of X and Y axis.

Q2. What is the correct "hold" when I shoot with both the eyes open or do I have to shut off my right eye ?

- Begin shooting with both eyes open, if there is no ghosting of sights, continue till you are comfortable.

Q3. Will this right-left combo (RAD-LED) hinder my progress in AP/ AR shooting ?

- No

Q4. Any idea if this 'thing' is a permanent feature or will it flip to some other combo down the years ?

- DOnt think too much or worry what will or will not happen. Just stick to what is comfortable and dont get tangled up in too much technicality. You can always ask me on this forum for advice.

Best Regards
Q5. Do I have to shift my shooting arm from right to left ?

For a while, since last evening, I thought I had to say "TaTa" to AP/AR shooting dreams. It was almost an "Encore" of 20 yrs back when PCB (and my 6' 1" height) shook me rudely off IAF ambitions.
Thank you very much for your guidance, hvj1. Your words above are quite encouraging and comforting. punaschha hari aum. :D

Oh exalted one, must you always answer a question with another one? Right i meant sight picture. My understanding is letting the trigger release as you lower into the ideal sight pic. One doesn't settle into sight picture, wait and then squeeze.

Hello Olly,
First of all, I like your shooting, (not because you will treat me to gulaabjamuns). WHY?

1. Your groups are very tight, simply love those groups, it shows to me that your grip is quite good.
Now , since I am sitting far away and not behind you, we will have to try a few things on trial and error basis, so

1. What ever we try out here, please DEFINITELY use Box drill system, this will tell me what percentage you are arriving at.

2. Having said that, let us begin with 'Calling' , refer to the lesson in case you have'nt read it.

3. Here is what I would like you to do, shoot 40 - 60 shots live. If your calling is incorrect, make a cross, if correct then place a tick mark. At the end of the session, kindly inform me the Percentage achieved. THIS YOU MUST DO.

4. I GUARANTEE you ONE thing, if you follow 100% on the steps I am telling you, your 8's will reduce by 80 %. This is after we have tried out all the steps in your technique, and not just calling, which is only connected to focus and focus follow through.

BR

Dev,
First and foremost, I could not open the message you sent me. Secondly, dynamic trigger operation as you say, is precisely necessary for achieving a quick shot release and also smooth trigger.
AND for heavens sake pardner, please stop elevating me in the clouds with your praise, since I am an ordinary mortal like you and feel very groggy indeed. :D

Hello Lucky,
1. Do you squeeze your trigger using the tip of your finger, OR between the finger tip and crease of first digit, OR at the crease of the first digit (crease is the bend of the forefinger closest to the finger tip).
2. What is position of the trigger shoe, is it right back, midway or right at the front?
3. Is the angle of the trigger shoe, at right angle to the trigger guard or canting to the left or right?
4. Is the grip of your pistol too large or too small?
Kindly provide answers to the above questions.
Regards

OK Lucky
Please shift the trigger shoe to the extreme end and see the result, try shifting it gradually backwards, milimetre by milimetre to see if it solves the problem.
