This firm or gent, Kovai Sporting Arms, could be the actual importer and the dealers would have a 'deal' with him to purchase directly and a larger quantity while telling him to keep his mouth shut!

They are the official dealers for diana, but they no longer get .22 calibre airguns only 1.77 for sport if you have club membership. The shop is looked after by the son, now they manufacture high quality torches at good prices.

Hi Guys,

Is importing air guns commercially allowed? I think i have read it somewhere that only individuals who are members of registered shooting clubs are allowed to import .177 cal air rifles (yes i am talking about the postal route). and .22 cal air rifles can be carried as checked in baggage by paying duty.

I don't think anyone of them is an authorized dealer.

P.S. i sent an e mail to gunmark pune about a month back ... no reply from them yet. let us wait for the covai guys to respond.

Ranjith,
Membership at Idukki Rifle Association should not be a problem. A gentleman by the name of Prince is the current secretary. I think it's 30k life membership and 15k ordinary. Good infrastructure in a beautiful locale.
By the way, I am a member of Kottayam Rifle Association.
Keep us posted on Kovai Arms.

Farhan,

Commercial import of airguns is not allowed and only shooters registered with rifle clubs or the NRAI can import air rifles, and that too, in .177 calibre. This has already been discussed in another thread.
If you are lucky, your .22 will get released after paying duty, ie, interpretation of the customs officer on duty. Otherwise, it will be confiscated, sent for a ballistics/dealwood test, in which it will definitely fail, and you will be asked to produce a licence for the same. This is what happened in the case of an IFG member from Chennai.
I don't know how Gunmark or Kovai sporting arms manage to commercially import air rifles, if at all they do. And Gunmark will choose to remain silent as this question will put them in a fix.
Regards,
Ebenezer

None of the dealers so far has been avble to import air guns/pistols so far from Diana and other manufacturers.

They all visit Diana office, Diana gives them the permission to book orders, hoping that some day, any dealer will be able to import their air guns.

Even I have a written permission from Diana and a couple of other manufacturers. But its presently impossible to import in any way on a commercial basis.

Cheers

I hope the info given above is useful and informative. No cat, no bag. Just the usual bureacracy rules, we plebes grin and bear it.

Very useful information indeed. I appreciate Mr Kezar for honestly coming out with the facts, despite being a arms dealer himself. Most dealers avoid commenting on issues concerning sales and purchases, as it is part of their trade secret.

They dont sell imported .22 airrifles as it is banned only 1.77 with a club membership. This is the best of my knowledge.
