Some of my grandfather's knives
Folks,
Thought I would show some knives that my grandfather owned. The bowie was gifted to him by a childhood friend and his name is inscribed on it. It has a full tang, an ivory hilt, a brass pommel and a leather sheath. The blade is not chromed but still retains it's sharpness. I presume it to be from the early to the mid '30's. Manufacturer is not known.
The folder is interesting, in the sense that the hilt is a stags' foot. The blade is chromed, not really sharp and has 'F. Herder & Sohn, Solingen' inscribed on it. Herder was a famous cutlery manufacturerin Germany in the early part of the last century. The knife has a locking mechanism and cannot be folded accidentally till the ring is pushed forward to unlock the blade. The sheath is made from rationed khakhi drill from the post WW2 era by my grandmother. I suppose my grandfather may have acquired this knife as a curiosity either in Bombay or on one of is trips to Europe in the late 1930's.

Beautiful pieces of art Katana.
Have seen knives and handguns with Ivory , also seen hilts made from antlers, but never a Stags foot.
I am so glad you've finally learnt to post snaps on IFG Katana.
Believe me guys , he's got a fantastic collection.
Would love to see your swords as well.

The Nepali Khukri ......made in Gujrat. lol.
I am sure your guys will do a good job.
Dehradun has a number of Khukri factories but over the years I have observed that thequality has gone down.
All Wildlife products have to be registered with the Wildlife Dept. of the state.
Katana just told me that these have already been registered.
Still can't get over the Stag foot. It is just so beautiful. Also in perfect condition. One would expect some hair loss over the years.

Great knives Katana, and the history behind them makes them all the more wonderful. I guess those were the days when knives were much more elegant.
