Gentlemen,
A responsible firearm owner is very concerned about the safe storage of his firearms . In India, people owning a proper "Firearm Safe" are very few . Most of the people store their firearms in locked cupboards/almirahs/bedside drawers/cabinets etc.The almirahs might be wooden or metallic. It is strange that in our system no attention is paid or any checks made by the licensing authority as to how safely the owner will or has stored his firearms. In the USA, in states like California, if you don’t own a safe, you face potential liability if your firearms are stolen. In countries like the U.K and Australia, the potential owner is allowed to purchase a firearm only after his gun safe is properly installed and checked by the concerned authorities/police.
Here is a link to Gun Safe Buyer's Guide which also highlights the Do s and the Don't s of safe gun storage.

Also I urge the members to highlight the ridiculous and unsafe means of gun storage that they have seen/known so as we all learn something more.
I have known of shotguns being stored in an unlocked box-bed and also under the bed mattress . Handguns being left uncared for long durations in bank lockers is ridiculous too.
best,
Rp.

I wouldn't equate Commiefornian gun laws with other US state gun laws:)In the USA, in states like California, if you don’t own a safe, you face potential liability if your firearms are stolen
Well, Wisconsin and Illinois don't really count, though Wisconsin is coming around.
Some states have laws that require you to keep guns in a location where they are not readily accessible by children. There are some sates that do have safe storage laws but I really wouldn't want to see more gun laws mandating this or that. There are more than enough of them as it is.
Once the camel gets his nose under the tent, the next thing you know, you have the whole camel in there with you.
Common sense would tell you that gun safes are a good idea though.
