Boris, it will be a lengthy process to inquire about this from the police authorities and it is more than likely that they will not have the reply ready. I personally feel that since you are more into all this stuff, we will appreciate if you could again ask the chairman of the mugai-ryu iaido assoc about it and if possible outline the exact license procedure and scan and post copies of the permit that he holds etc.

If there is such a procedure (and there might be if you are so sure about it) we all want to know about it and will be thankful to you to for bringing it to our notice but until then we assume otherwise.

I hope your next post on this topic will be after you have obtained all details.

I am out of this pointless discussion now until something solid comes up. Thanks.

that is absolutely illegal!
if you go through the previous posts you will see my inputs and i had asked the chairman of mugai-ryu again few months back this is how the procedure goes:

->katana is available in japan and is very expensive min. 2 lakhs so before you leave for japan you have to go to your police authorities for clearance prefarrable to city police HQ where all the bigwig IPS guys are

->you can only bring in/import the blade if you are an iaido practitioner with some experience and for that you need belt certifications, letter's from officials in the governing body of you martial art i.e iaido only that you are capable of handling it and its ok for you to get it,otherwise they'll reject your application.

->if all goes well then you will be given some sort of paper that you have the required clearance for getting the blade, this has to be shown to customs the moment you land here.

if you are not an iaido practitioner/experienced martial artist then you cant get any clearance.

the only close thing you can get is an iaito or practise sword its made of metal that cannot be sharpened, hence if getting it in person or through online store like airsoft, paintball it has to carry a certificate/paper from store owner that it cannot be converted to a weapon and is harmless.if you are ready to shell 40000 rs. there are some great piece's available in online stores.

neverthless no un-trained person should get the katana it is very very sharp and if used with wrong technique will cause damage and like a gun if not taken care of the blade dries up.
You haven't lived until you have been close to death, for those who fight life has a different flavor that the protected will never know.
