Re: modern knives
frame lock may be even stronger then liner lock especially when two liners used
here is example of frame lock
some liner lock very good too, like that one on ZT 0350, mota liner and wide same time, very solid

There is nothing like CNC technology, Its COMPUTERISED NUMERICAL CONTROL its basically a machine controlled by the application of some micro processors and the moment in the three axis is so controlled that you can get the accuracy up to 1 micron (0.001mm).
Basically the die used for the forging is manufactured with the help of this machine and in the later finishing stage,If the knife is very precious and precise to the engineering dimensions then they use to go for optical profile grinding for the edge to achieve accuracy on the edge and then these knifes are surface treated and ready to use.
Now a days 5 axis and 7 axis milling machines are also available, But these are used to machining of missile components and some other parts also used as standard in plastics injection mould (eg-nozzle of hot runners)
There are many kind of CNC machines are available namely.
CNC LATHES
CNC HORIZONTAL MILLING
CNC VERTICAL MILLING
CNC WIRE-CUT MACHINE
CNC ELECTRIC DISCHARGE MACHINE
CNC GRINDING MACHINE
CNC OPTICAL PROFILE GRINDING MACHINE
CNC ROUTING MACHINE (basically used for the ornamental design on the components)
these my words are for only to gather knowledge only. so please do not get impressed if some body says it is manufactured by CNC technique.
Its nothing after machining also every thing and the finishing work is done by hand only. Its the manual labuor that puts life to the components not the CNC machine,But you can achieve a greater degree of accuracy.

seems like quite advanced machines any way, but sounds a bit impersonal

If you visit Orkut then you can see the pictures of some CNC machine up to the bed length of 2M
if you visit then search in my name then you will get it easily.
Or if you or any member of this site is having any problem regarding the manufacturing techniques you can ask me freely "if your question will be within the reach of my knowledge then it is definite that I will give you the answer or I will try to find a solution to your problems''.

Re: modern knives
Also one of the things that CNC machines will allow is repeatability. Once the machine is programmed, the same part can be churned out repeatedly and it will not vary from the previous part (depending on the tolerances that machine is capable of holding). So you can take a rough casting or forging and clamp it in a CNC machine and the machine will finish it to the dimensions specified. As Abhrankash said, tolerances on today's machines can be very tight. Since the machine is setup by the computer and not a human, repeatability and speed can be achieved. Many of today's gun companies (at least in the US) use CNC machines to manufacture their product.

If you talk of the tolerances that is being achieved then it depends on various factors and its a engineering topics, if you go with the indian manufacturer the scenario is almost the same.
But in India their is no one who is making fire arm except IOF as far as knowledge is concern.Although its a government company.
I don't know of any private firms doing so,but there are some private firms who makes bullet proofs under license from DUPONT as the patent of Kevlar materials lies with them.

Re: modern knives
In my opinion, the 755 is way too thicker than normal, which makes it difficult for EDC - folks have ended up selling 755 for the same reason, and it goes relatively cheap (lowest I have seen on bladeforums is $115). This means it is not "highly desirable". Also note that, the thicker blade takes away the "neat slicing ability" that thinner blades offer you (not cutting, but slicing). I guess the original Siebert custom (similar to the 755 MPR) may have tighter tolerances, making it more desirable.Dpaul wrote:wow nice. that is really a modern knife.. i like it. I'd rather have the Chris Reeve Sebenza folder in my collection -- but at $300 and up, it is an impossible proposition at this moment. Seems like Chris personally guarantees the tolerances, and these are the most sought after folders in the knife world. I thought it was overrated, but after lengthy discussions with people who own them, I realized that my opinion was incorrect.

Re: modern knives
I like that black version better, retail for $220
Benchmade made good publicity around that knife
http://www.benchmade.com/images/pr/pdf/ ... pt2010.pdf
to motivate dealers Benchmade offers about 40% discount, so they priced 755 quite right
for example cheapest production Strider folder goes for $300
competition in this price range quite serious and not so many people actually buying such folders.
great number of exceptional tactical folders available on much lover rate.
for example this time tested Kabar Mule for $40 only
