Determining the chamber length

Saw a beautiful 12 gauge shot gun today afternoon.The only problem is that the flats of the barrel are painted black.I can faintly read the words NITRO PROOF but can't figure out what shot shells is it chambered for.Any idea how can I figure that out.The owner won't let me take off the black paint .He said its for 2 1/2" but dread ending up with a 2" chamber instead.Can I know by measuring the flat of the barrel?

a_c,check with the manufacturer,if its a reputed gun maker and still around think they will reply to your query pretty fast,another way would be to take the imprint of the side and then trying to figure it out,the only word of caution with painted barrels is that 1 guy tried to pass of a pitted Jeffrey's to me and was very insistent in not taking of the paint,i got spooked,later on came to know about the barrel from a dealer,he had bought it. hope you figure out how you measure the chamber,but in case you do,do let me know

The gun is by a reputed manufacturer ...but doubt they would reply back to my query.No i don't have a clue how to measure the chamber.

Using a vernier may help to find chamber depth
Depth may measured by reverse side of vernier
