Bagha Jatin - Real Tiger

Post by Sakobav » Wed Dec 15, 2010 8:01 am

Jatindra Nath Mukherjee was born in Jhenaidha district of Bengal in 1879. It is said that he came to be called 'Bagha Jatin' after killing a tiger single-handed and without any arms. Jatin's mother, a widow, raised him. Having personally met the German Crown-Prince in Calcutta shortly before the World War I, he obtained the promise of arms and ammunition from Germany; as such, he was responsible for the planned German Plot during World War I.

It seems an Englishman (Sir Charles Tegart, then Police big boss of Bengal) wrote that he would have been proud to have a son like Bagha Jatin. This, after masterminding the encounter in a place called Chandipur in Balasore district in Orissa (more famous now as Agni missile testing station), where Bagha was killed. And as for recognition, forget it, Doctor... This chap did not make millions out of some scam, so why should he be recognised in today's India!
The Brits (the people, not the Raj) were much better at this, some Brits (in England) had written to stop Bhagat Singh's death sentence. I remember that Times (of London) archives had records of the same.
Cheers!
