Though it is a replica firearm and a non firing weapon, do ensure that the seller provides you with a deactivation certificate stating that it is so. If you are flying in with the piece yourself, declare it with the airline or ask in advance as to what their internal policies say about the carriage\cartage of such an item.

Worst case scenario, if its seized at the airport in India by customs, collect the seizure receipt and perform a followup. Namely get local police involved (who will defer it to their armorer) to check and verify that its a non firing replica and therefore not a weapon. As far as duties are concerned you'd have to check them up personally via any customs or DFGT source. My two cents, and please dont regard this as legal advice.

if the gun was a musket design the situation would have been much easier but in this case, i know i m not experienced but i would say its like a lot of work the customs can get you into, i really dont know how they take it.
