Re: The Casual Attitude Of The Indian Police!
Sec 62 Market has become so bad that cops with SLR's are required?
I thought only the thandedaar went around with an armed escort of 4 , carrying INSAS' with 5 rounds in the mag. Yup, I checked

Thats exactly what I teach my son, who is about 10. Even with air rifles. We first visually check anything and everything before removing any arm from the arms cupboard, be extremely careful while shooting and check everything before and after cleaning the arms while putting them away. Safety first and foremeost. And yes, forget strangers, never ever, hand over your weapon to anyone. Another of my principles is to store ammo away from the arms. Never in the same cupboard.

Quite true if your handgun is your primary home defense weapon. My carry gun and my HD gun (which I also carry occasionally) are kept in a small two gun safe that is bolted to my bedside table. On top of the bedside table, I keep my flashlight and a spare knife. I no longer have little children living in my home so I am not too worried about anyone accessing my knife. The guns are stored loaded with a spare loaded magazine by each one. My only worry is that, coming out of a deep sleep, I would confuse a family with an intruder. It is because of this that I have the flashlight close by. It is a pretty powerful flashlight and will easily blind someone from across the room if pointed at them. I would want to be absolutely sure of my target before I would consider firing.dr.jayakumar wrote: i think you are right with long guns, what about your handgun?keeping in seperate cuboards will not save the purpose ,i beleive.
I can access the safe by reaching out my hand while lying in the bed so I can retrieve either handgun pretty quickly. We also have dogs who should give me ample warning if a stranger enters the house. The only person apart from my wife and I who would enter the house with their own key is my daughter and neither of my dogs bark at her even when she hasn't been around for a while as they grew up with her. However, to be frank, when my daughter was little, I never kept a loaded gun in the house.

Hi pandeymitul,
You are a gun crazy guy like most of us, with a craving for handling guns. You had your opportunity thanks to a cop who trusted you enough to let you handle his probably empty gun. Please don't betray the trust shown by him in you by publishing the details like location date time etc. Please bear in mind that if it comes to the notice of his higher ups he can be punished. Thats for the trust he shows in you.
A request to all members is, to desist from giving details like exact date, time and location in similar incidents, where an unsuspecting official can be taken up; due the faith and trust he/she placed in you.
Thanks,
Srinivas

Ditto, and I'd shudder to think what'd happen if he chooses to press charges against you to save his posterior. Bravado and curiosity aside, it wont be very pretty.SRI 420 wrote:Please bear in mind that if it comes to the notice of his higher ups he can be punished.
Please exercise due caution and try to avoid getting into a 'grey' situation like this.
My 2 cents.

Dr. Jayakumar,
There are three members of my family with handguns. they all keep them with them personally, not in the gun cupboards. I, myself don't have one, neither am I too fond of them.
