Re: IOF 30-06 Rifle
...Well the incompetent clods couldn't even produce a simple original barrel smooth or rifled.... They actually had to import the stuff... I mean isn't barrel making the most basic and essential skill required in gun making??THAMBI wrote:Hi,

Why do you say that ? RFI has been making complete rifles (including the barrel )since almost 90 years.A good story to enable a dealer to steal some more money from your pocket.THAMBI wrote:Hi,

Re: IOF 30-06 Rifle
I have it from some people that the 2008 models have barrels imported from Steyr and the later models have barrels made on a hammer forging machine imported from Steyr for RS. 5 crores! If you read my post from the middle of the year, I was a bit confused on the quality of barrels vis-a-vis the action and the rest of the firearm. That got me thinking and I started calling up people I knew, who could have some reliable info. Anyway, this is what I could glean the most from them.

@cottage cheese: Steyr
@nagarifle: you have some good contacts too. Why don't you check on this? AFA the RTI application, whatever the source of the barrels might be, I sincerely doubt the staff at RFI would help me in any way!

Re: IOF 30-06 Rifle
....Then we may find that Steyr is outsourcing to Spain who get the blanks bored in China...and so on...
Funny, what IOF does to do almost no work and rake in obscene profits.
I mean other than the 'metallurgy', it's a simple exercise to adapt our current 7.62mm barrel making machinery for 30-06... after all the bore is more or less the same size... rifling rate of twist can be altered if they are using sinusoidal rifling machines. Button rifling is a simple matter of... well manufacturing appropriately sized and cut buttons- This is not rocket science...nor is it an expensive affair for a set up as mammoth as IOF. For chambers... well how difficult is it to make chamber reamers? Why, they can simply buy a rack of 30-06 chamber reamers from brownells... how much will that cost?
Anyway, I fear we're going OT.

Re: IOF 30-06 Rifle
Even more curious is if IOF actually pays any royalty to Suaer or is it an outright copy? And to hell with the laws! Till now I have not been able to figure out the logic of introducing this rifle in the market. Why the Sauer was chosen to be copied? Who was the so called 'designer' at IOF? Too many loose ends on it's history.
As far as costing is concerned, I'm told the cost to the dealer from IOF is around 25-30k while another 'thread' in the market pegs the price at 65K, while bulk of the price is the dealers' profit. Only a dealer who has been fortunate to get a lottery of having his quota of 5 rifles alloted will be able to tell the correct figure. In effect, the IOF is not really turning a profit on this rifle.

Re: IOF 30-06 Rifle
Well, that about settles it.... the rifle was 'designed' or 'pirated' by a gentleman who can barely spell or is dyslectic.
