Re: modern knives
Thanks fellows so I've narrowed down to 2 blades:
- GERBER LMF 2
- Extreme sharpnel Testudo
I think Gerber can be bought from India from Adventure 18. What about Extreme sharpnel, can it be bought from India & in case of an import, any address?
It would be great if someone could cite their prices in Indian currency!

Re: modern knives
Thats correct for the Gerber LMF you can contact Adventure 18
The second option you have chosen is in fact the Extrema Ratio (name of the company), Knifes name is Shrapnel, OG (without upper guard / hilt) Geocamo (name of the finish on the blade) as shown in the pictures I have posted.
To the best of my knowledge it is not available in India and quoting the price in Indian currency will be complex as these will be the shipping and customs costs etc. involved too. The price in U S Dollars for this will be somewhere around $200 (more or less $ 10-15)
You can order this from http://xtremeknives.com/eq160shrgeg.html or just look it up on the internet.

Re: modern knives
Thanks Rajat, in hurry forgot to write "Ratio"!
Anyhow, OG "upper guard", I did not quite get it. I want a knife with a nice sheath.
Also, preferably like the knife in Black color, as posted by Subal.
Would xtremeknives ship to India? So, ideally everything put together i.e. Duty + postage + insurance would amount to ~ double the amount ($400). This would make me think twice before ordering!
P.S: Checked their site, they ship to India. Lets see how much would be the grand total!

Re: modern knives
Ok, Go in for Shrapnel OG Testudo then. The sheath should be exactly as you can see in the pictures I have posted and it is quite good.
xtremeknives ship to India thats why I gave you this link!
Go ahead ask them for a quote.

Re: modern knives
In a 'situation' I would go for the LMF. I think it's a more rounded package in terms of survival, camping and self defense (if it comes to that). I also believe that the LMF handle is very well insulated. You could pry open or cut a electric cable without the current giving you a shock. Also it's got an integrated glass/plexiglas breaking tip. The sheath also has an integrated sharpner.
The Sharpnel seems to me more like an all out self defense back up knife. As I have never seen it or held it I don't know just how thick the blade is to use as a pry. Also the tip is more suited towards combat.

Any why is that so? SRK is a 5 inch blade, sharpnel is a 4 inch.Subal das wrote:I did not interpret anything, since we were talking about fixed blade EDC, then of course carrying SRK is just like looking for troubles

Re: modern knives
Yeah thats what my question is that between sharpnel at 4.33 inches blade length and SRK at 6 inches, why is carrying an SRK like asking for trouble?

Re: modern knives
This is the cross section where the blade is connected with the handle. On knives the primary function is to prevent the hand from slipping. One some knives you have it both in front of the blade as well as behind the blade. On some just in the front and on others you do not have it at all..32 wrote:Thanks, just for trivia sake, which is the better among the two : Sharpnel or LMF?
What is the "Upper guard"?
See the picture I have posted of the Shrapnel OG this is without the "upper guard" and the picture which Subal has posted of the Shrapnel has the guard on both sides. Check out the pictures and you will get to know the difference.

Re: modern knives
My belief is the contrary of what you say. The upper guard does not allow one to place his / her thumb over the blade which is not convenient at times.
As far as your hand slipping on the handle: The lower guard does its work well and it depends on how good you are in handling a knife.

Re: modern knives
100% correct, upper hand guard does no good, but only look fancy. In opposite many effective disarm technique based on blowing on or hooking up upper hand guard and chances to loose knife realistically higher. for example belt can be used or steel baton. also if knife has upper guard it cant be handled in certain ways.Rajat wrote:My belief is the contrary of what you say.
