Hi Everyone,
I recently joined the forum, and recently bought an air rifle; at 38 years, a late entrant into the hobby! I need some advice on the same from experienced (air)gunslingers, hence the essay below.
The gun I bought on a total whim, from a local shop in Thane (actually while waiting for my wife to finish her apparel shopping ). It is a Kolkata made (not Aimco, but some local brand), break-barrel, .22 cal air rifle with a range, as per the dealer, of 150 ft, i.e. 50 yards. I don't believe that part.
The good news is, this gun, at Rs. 1,300/- is surprisingly good for me! I can, at 10M, indoors, consistently hit targets the size of beer / Coke cans, about 80-85% of the time. These cans, I tie from overhead, with twine, so there is a very slight movement due to wind. Being a total novice, I really don't understand how this can be. I use the normal aluminium pelletes the dealer sold to me, and have shot about 500 in the last one month. I honestly did not know, before I visited this sight, about round heads, flat heads, etc.!!
Now, having spent a few days reading the posts on this forum, I wanted to do something more with the gun, say increase the range a bit, clean / tune it, etc. Also, need to know how I can maintain it properly. Hence, the requirement for advice. Kindly note that, although not impoverished, I cannot spend more than another 3-4000 on the gun, hence Rs. 10K scopes, etc., are totally out of the question for me. (My wife has promised to buy me a better one on my next biirthday, if I can improve on this!!)
Seeing the advice you people have given to other novices, request you to help me out, please!!
Thanks a lot, everyone!!

Straight off you can start with buying better pellets, local pellets are not consistent in shape and weight.
If the gun basic is correct, weight, barrel accuracy, good fit, material is good enough for you to more money on it. If the basic is wrong, then it wont be worth doing much on it, if its good then i think you can go ahead with the performance tunning. You can start off with putting better spring.
For tunning, there are loads of info on this forum, you can go through those and may be find a local guru to help you take your gun to next level.
Scope for smaller distance is not required, rather wont help much. Its only when you are hitting some thing longer than 20 meter, it might make some sense to put scope.

Thanks, sa_ali and big daddy!!
Can you refer me to any local Guru in Mumbai / Thane? The videos are quite useful, but some hands-on guidance will be better. I happen to be a pretty good handyman with drills and screwdrivers and stuff, but somehow all airsoft guns I tried to pull apart and put together, did not make it to the "put together" stage!! Don't want the same to happen to the airgun.
I think the "yellow pages" section will have info on where to get pellets, springs, etc. Right?
Cheers!!
