A Pic of Puma Waidblatt, a beautiful knife and would love to own one..but costs over 600 Euros... Just because its handmade in Germany..

There are cheaper versions of the Waidblatt - the laser cut ones.

Anyway, I don't want to copy a knife, that would be boring. Let's design one instead.

Also bear in mind that the facilities available will be very very basic, so no fancy shapes, grinds, bolsters, etc.

Count me in for one.. I would love somthing on Bowie type design with a wooden handle and a leather sheath but a bit smaller than the Puma Waidblatt.

Mack The Knife, as you see the purpose is kind of similar to what you would use the knife, basically kind of machete, So along those lines, a heavy bowie would also be great...And of course you know more about knives, so if you have a design, i'll go with it..

If you haven't read the bit on how to handle a khukuri safely, please do so. Especially the bit on how to hold the scabbard when withdrawing a khuk.

Hi Ranjeet,

The IFG members knife I had in mind would be nothing more than a small hunter - the blade would probably be 4" long and definitely not more than 5".

I may have time to make a sketch or two today. If I complete it, I will post it here.

Got my 12 inch Ang Khola Khukhri from Himalayan Imports and it has horn handle. Looks great and I will post the snaps latter. It came with a pamphlet showing proper way of unsheathing the Khukhri.

Its well oiled and am I supposed to keep it that way? Appreciate feedback on maintenance

Yes, please keep the blade oiled/greased to prevent rust.

Not much maintenance required. You could Brasso the brass bits and keep the leather from drying with regular wax shoe polish.

Look forward to the pics. A pic or scan of the pamphlet would also help the other khukuri nuts on here.

Uncle Bill was a great man! I had quite a few communications with him and consider myself lucky to have done so.I was in touch with him through his illness too.
I used to be a regular on the HIMIMP forums too but after Uncle Bill passed away I drop in just once in a while.

I would like to share my personal experience on importing khuks.
My first khuk from Him Imp was a 25" sirupati by Bura. Inspite of having asked for EMS it was erroneously sent by normal airmail parcel post. After about a month i got a letter from the customs dept of the Postal service saying my parcel has arrived and it will be opened in my presence for approval.

On my arrival at the foreign post office the superintendent told me that it is a sword and that it cannot be allowed.I asked him if there was any specific law stating that there was a specific size which was disallowed, he said that any object can be examined and if considered to be capable of causing "public harm" it can be disallowed.
When I tried to reason with him he said that he will not allow it and if I had any complaints I should meet the AC customs.
To my great luck the AC customs a Mr Koli was a jolly old chap and when I told him that I was a doctor and collected knives he immediately said "No problem,I'll clear it".He asked the peon to get the parcel for examination. In the meanwhile he told me that his daughter is a medico too and that he generally had great regard for them
When the Khuk arrived his jaw dropped! He said"I thought its a small khukri like the one I brought on my last trip to Nepal" indicating a size of around 5 inches.He seemed proud that it has an ivory handle ."But this looks more dangerous than the swords we kept back from the Shias, who had ordered it from Iran for their mosque!"
Then he asked me about khukris in general and about some of my other knives and then sent the Superintendent out for some other work.Once the Super had left he told me "You are lucky you came to me! That bloody fellow would never have let you take it!" After that it was fast work he approved the parcel and wished me goodbye and a week later the parcel was delivered to my home.

After this two of my purchases on Ebay, a Spyderco Shabaria and a Buck Alpha were lost the mail.
After that all my purchases were delivered only by EMS.
My next two Him Imp khuks a BGRS(Baby Gangaram Special) and a Gelbu Special reached my home by EMS in a weeks time and in 9 days respectively.

I noticed that with EMS the parcel came with the customs clearance document stuck on it. No hassles! Worth the 25 $ definitely!

My last Khukri was purchased in July of 2004 so I dont know if there have been any changes since then in the way they clear khukris.

Just wanted to add if the Mizo bowie is being made please count me in.The standard specs will do fine for me.If the ethnic "dha or dhao" is available that would be even better. Always wanted one
