My Toz (.22 LR) Single Shot, Free Pistol, For 50 M Event
My Toz (.22 LR), Single Shot.
Barell - 10' length - By Walther (Germany).
Grip - By Morini (Swiss).
Pistol - Made In Russia.
Source - http://www.shootingwiki.org/index.php?title=Free_Pistol
Formerly known as 'Free Pistol', the ISSF 50m Pistol event is the pinnacle of precision pistol competition in the world. The shooter is given plenty of time and the rules are very liberal, without allowing technology to usurp shooter skills.
The rules are straight-forward:
[*]Sixty shots must be fired in 2 hours
[*]The pistol must have
[*]open sights and
[*]be loaded one shot at a time.
[*]The shooter must shoot one handed and use the same hand to support and trigger the gun.
[*]The grip cannot touch beyond the hand; i.e. the wrist must be visibly free when the pistol is held in the normal firing position.
[*]The shooter cannot wear clothing that offers additional support.
Of course there are many more details but that summarizes the spirit of the rules

Re: My Toz (.22 LR) Single Shot, Free Pistol, For 50 M Event
It is called 'free' pistol because the shooter has the freedom to adust the grips and the trigger to his liking. However the grip cannot cover his wrist, so as to support it. The TOZ trigger has weight adjustment of 10gm - 100 gms. Which is feather touch, till the time you are prepared to shoot with it and find that your trigger finger still 'freezes'.It is called free pistol as there is no weight in the trigger. (The trigger is actually feathertouch).

Not necessarily, different shooters have different preferences, this has more to do with the recoil- hence some shooters prefer the SK, which has low recoil. The Eley club is somewhere between and I have shot my best 537/600 with it. The Eley Ten X has a lot more oomph and the shooter must be prepared to handle the recoil. Why the .22 KF also was pretty good, my personal best 531/600 but I never used it in competitions, because in 60 shots, suddenly you could feel one or two shots going down in power (you can feel it from the recoil and even the shot sound). Even then the shot does reach the target, but far lower than aimed for.Normally the ammonution fired in this event should be of higher velocity. For eg (Eley 10x)

22 short was only used for rapid fire pistol event. Now even this event uses 22lr. The .22 short and long have almost become obsolete.vrohan59 wrote:I was always under the impression that in the free pistol event .22 short cartridge is used. Please enlighten me regarding thisA

After ur comment, i thought i was wrong, little searched the net, and found we both r wrong,hvj1 wrote:It is called 'free' pistol because the shooter has the freedom to adust the grips and the trigger to his liking. It is called free pistol as a shooter is free to shoot & rules are very liberal.

In other pistol events (Rapid fire, Sports pistol, Standard pistol, Centre Fire Pistol) u r given series to shoot followed by command, however in free pistol event a shooter is free to shoot 60 shots in 2 hrs or 145 minutes.
Grip - All match pistol grips are adjustable.

If at all you wish to quote any site then you could be better served by refering to the ISSF Rules book, the reason the free pistol is called free, is because, the shooter has no restrictions on the following; After ur comment, i thought i was wrong, little searched the net, and found we both r wrong,

1. Barrel length refer to table 8.9
2 Grips , where hand covers are allowed provided they do not cover the wrist refer to 8.4.3.1
3. Pistol Box dimensions, which MEANS that there is no restrictions on the width of the pistol (usually refers to the grip) refer 8.9
4.Sight radius , no restriction refer to table 8.9, which effectivley means the distance between the rear and front sights. Here I could have amplified further, but the subject is for advanced shooters.
Incorrect, refer to 8.4.3.1 - hand covers are allowed only in free pistol and not for any other event. There is a vast difference between the two.Grip - All match pistol grips are adjustable.

if u read the link, it refers to the same rule, as u said, and i also refered the same.Incorrect, refer to 8.4.3.1 - hand covers are allowed only in free pistol and not for any other event. There is a vast difference between the two.
However, being a senior shooter, pls share some tips for free pistol, Anyways nice score, u must share some nice cool tips for free pistol.Mine was 510/600.Hoping for better result in upcoming championship.

Re: My Toz (.22 LR) Single Shot, Free Pistol, For 50 M Event
Hi Amit,
I have had one that was worked upon in Germany for mods and guruji hvj1 is absolutely right on the parameters.
As regarding the ammo , well the guys way back in 2002-2004 had fun using short, I still shoot with short just to sport. But then they changed it to .22lr. Here again lower velocity rounds work the best.( even tried reloading with less charge but late LINGAM did not agree on the idea). I benched the TOZ-35M and tried out different ammo, that was were I went wrong... the trick being controlling the recoil which is best on brands that are lower in velocity.
Whatever I have said is my personal experience and I would suggest you to try it out not benched by trying it by holding on a rest. The trigger squeeze is to be learnt by this method and last of all, check to have the grips worked upon to give you the best results.... ( I have 3 grips and still feel scope for improvement. like hvj1 says.... all in the HEAD!)
best of luck...... Shankar

Hello Amit,Shankar wrote:( I have 3 grips and still feel scope for improvement.
Shankar
The first thing in F.P is to get that grip right and Shankar is absolutely 'spot on' regarding the subject. Unfortunately, there are very few experts who can fit out your grip to international standards in India. Most of these chaps are senior shooters themselves. Unfortunately off these only one or two will give an aspiring shooter the time of day. You could try discussing the matter, with Samresh or Vivek SIngh.
The second thing is the ease with which your trigger finger TIP rests on the trigger shoe and more importantly the angle at which it rests on the shoe.
But the one sure shot method of improving your score is to get your shot off, within one or two seconds of the sights settling within the aiming area. For which you must train yourself dry and live (using cheap ammo like KF). TRAIN TRAIN TRAIN to get that shot off quickly.
Personally, the Free Pistol is the PRINCE of all pistol shooting events, the feeling one gets when one hits the bull, is terrific. This event was my favourite and before I could make much progress in the same, I was struck down with severe spondylitis. Hence always WARM UP (20-30 min) before each shooting sessions and keep your neck and shoulder muscles strong.
Happy shooting hope to see you cross 540 soon.

Grip was set by jaspal, trigger, sight, all good,hvj1 wrote:But the one sure shot method of improving your score is to get your shot off, within one or two seconds of the sights settling within the aiming area. my problem is what u wrote 2 sec, i take 4-5 sec. some time 6 sec, at 6sec i am breathless.
No-2, use to fire sk (last nationals - I suffered a lot in standard pistol 10 sec series & 2 shots in free pistol - samresh told me sk has missfire history),
now firing 40gr Lapua Midas Plus & some times 10x, 10x suits me most, but yes max recoil. never fired KF in match.
540/600 is dam good. AMEN.

Re: My Toz (.22 LR) Single Shot, Free Pistol, For 50 M Event
If its Jaspal, then he knows what he is doing, but still with experience you will be able to make the necessary fine tuning yourself. Lapua is good and yes SK has that problem too. The longer you hold the more the arc of movement gets larger. I remember one National in Delhi, as part of the Maharashtra civillian category team, I had to shoot, that was the time I was severely affected by spondylitis.(walking around like Uriah Heep) I remember allowing the sights to settle and bang, the shots would go, no follow through nothing, finished the match in 45 minutes, Shot 517 and podium finish! Those were the days, when scores as poor as mine still got you a gong.
