no it is not double edged knife.

what make this knife stand out of other knives made by Shrade it is 1070 High Carbon steel. while most of Shrade knives made from 440C.

my personal preference for survival knife would be some sort of machete, or at least knife like KA-BAR / Becker BK-9 "Becker Combat Bowie"

but knife like that one made by Shrade, also very useful survival tool. I would recommend the book titled Everybody's Knife Bible. This book first time published in 1937 is the best source of information on how to use knife in survival and outdoor/hunting environment I ever seen.

but india is listed in the countries to which they export.
they also qoute the shipping and handling charges for india.
i donot have a credit card otherwise i would have definitly placed an order by now.

Same here, I spoke with him regarding an order with a customised handle to which he readily agreed. When it came to discussing payments and delivery he disappeared. Thankfully I had not parted with my greenbacks.

ebay is just like market place, and dealers who sale knives on ebay are having different shipment policies, some ship internationally and some not. you will have to talk direct to the guy and he may agree to ship to India.

A survival knife has to have a simple but strong and and reliable blade which can be used for several situations and all of them not necessarily related to hunting. Also remember that a simple blade is the most suitable as you might have to sharpen it yourself "field sharpening".

The easiest way to buy these is through ebay.com but you will have to look for three things: The ratings on the seller, to convince him to ship to India and lastly to get the seller to ship via Fed Ex or DHL or UPS or any any shipping company other than USPS. These shipping companies will handle the clearance, duties etc.

Sorry, I just read this. Things will be a bit difficult now. Credit card payments are the easiest.

Now in this case contact the seller for his bank details and transfer money from your bank to his account first. Provided your bank as a Foreign Exchange counter / division. It will be a bit complicated but will work.

You have got it right! Its simplicity is its forte. You know your knives quite well!

A bit OT but from where & how to get these masterpieces sharpened?

Are the scissors/kitchen knives sharpening shops ok?

.32 The Scissor / Kitchen knives sharpening shops are the easiest available solution to your sharpening needs. They will be able to handle almost anything other than serrated blades. Just make sure their grinding wheel works on a low RPM and does not overheat the blade as it will affect the temper / hardness of the blade.

The other option is Do it Yourself. Takes a lot of practice but thereafter you will be able to manage on your own. Just buy a good guided sharpening system.

Am NOT a major fan of survival kives.If I have to, will carry 2-task oriented knives.
If its true survival, you will need a small kit to be carried on person all the time when in the bush. Contents are more than those fitting in your hollow knife handle.The hollow handles work well in movies.
One strong blade. Hopefully 5 inches or less? Innocuous, and in today's environment-Politically correct-as much as I hate to say it. Even a strong 4 inch folder is preferable.
99.99% it will be carried.
IF you need to use it, it shouldnt make you wince to use it to pry a rock, dress a sapling, cut small timber for tinder or slaughter a chicken. Oh my 400US$ knife got its blade scratched.
Some of the Spyderco might fit the bill , without the overt intonations of a 12 inch Buck Survival knife.
Look at a Leatherman - great blade, sharpest I've seen and used.If you need to pry/cut/file, has a task specific tool.
Wont get you hauled up before a cop for carrying a KNIFE. Yup, dangerous things.Especially when the newspapers quote a " high powered foreign made knife, so sophisticated that even our own police is not issued such latest weapons "
