How difficult / easy is it to refill a PCP ???

Post by nash » Sun Sep 19, 2010 4:26 pm

Hi guyz!!!

A springer needs nothing but a few tins of pellets and we're good for a whole day of shooting/plinking/target practice and hunting...

A PCP is any day a better option than a springer minus the hazzle of refilling them and the added baggage which we need to lug around...

But the lure of a PCP never gives up.... So i thought why not ask our own fellow IFGians who own PCP's about how difficult / easy it is
to refill a PCP air rifle... and the added cost and baggage attached with them.... and another important aspect - maintenance...

So I request all our experts and PCP owners to pour in their valuable inputs...

Thanks and regards...

Nash.

A supplementary question: Can the source tank (used to fill the airgun) be re-filled at the local car puncture-repair shop? The shop usually has a big compressor, but 3000 psi?

I have been using a FX foot pump. It is strenous, if you fill from very low levels of charge. But still reasonable exercise.

I usually top up when the pcp cylinder is half full. It's quicker and easier.

Is it worth the effort we take to refill it? We gotta keep counting the number of shots.. And after the gun is exhausted its limit we gotta take a break each and every time to either pump it back to life or use a compressor or a scuba tank.. Which kinda seems frustrating..

At the least if we had all the accessories available across the country it'll make things much easier.. But No one can say for sure when that time's gonna come..

Only those who've been using a PCP over a period of time can tell about the advantages and disadvantages of a PCP vis-a-vis a springer...

..
1. yes, all of the above are a hassle
2. there are more things to go wrong that you may not be able to fix yourself
3. some people feel the lack of recoil take the fun away
4. costlier

but
1. lighter than springers
2. more accurate
3. no recoil issues for scopes.

like anything in life you accept the advantages and disadvantages, decide where your own balance lies, and take the plunge, or not. you can't have the best of both worlds.
