Problem with new IHP 35 .22d
Hey guys,
I recived my IHP35 last week from aimco and i over the week end i put it through some 5o shots.
towards the end, after i cock the barrel, load the pellet and lock it, it doesnt stay locked.
The barrel breaks even with a slight touch and and definetly breaks when i fire the rifle.
I spoke to Mr Biswas in Aimco and her said that there is a gap in all IHP rifles and after a while it wears down and any local gunsmith can fix it easily. and that it was common in all IHP's.
Like your comments on and would also like some suggestions on a good gunsmith in Chennai.

This is definitely an issue and will not go with time. It is dangerous also. I suggest you get the rifle changed. A gap cannot wear away. a tight fit can wear in.

Return it for an exchange.
i have a .177 IHP mod 25 for the past 20 - 25 years and it still locks fine.

Hi xavierbritt,
> Saw ur video clip.
> Its a manufacturing defect - your local gunsmiths may not be able to give a permanent solution to this problem.
> Contact Mr. Makhija, Factory Manager of IHP at Ahmedabad and inform him.
> You could also attach the video clip to the e-mail you send him. He is quite responsive and may solve your problem.

Xavier,
I had the same problem with my IHP .22 airpistol. I got it fixed recently by Tamilnadu Armoury in Saidapet, which now has a gunsmith who is doing a fair job.

this looks like a wedge lock issue. Wedge lock system of IHP has a fixed wedge on the spring compressor and the moving wedge end on the barrell assembly. Below picture is of the wedge (movable on barrel assembly). Cock your barrel, (carefull not to discharge, while working on it).
The movable wedge assembly is held in position by the screw as seen in the picture below towards the right side.
There can be 3 reasons why the wedge can have a problem as depicted,
1) the wedge lock has broken or has weared down, this can be checked by looking at the visible portion.Since your IHP is new there is 0 posibility for this. however worth a check..
2) the wedge has to be correctly aligned, "><" while locked, this can be ruled out too as the gun will not lock in position as seen in the video if this was a problem. however worth a check
this leaves us to the next possible issue,
3) the wedge at barrel edge is encapsuled in a cylinder preloaded with spring, and the screw restricts the wedges movement to a set level. the issue can be the spring has broken or has lost the coil strength.
Now to fix any or all, you need a garden glove and a screw driver, and this spring is not supercompressed so can be worked by anyone. remove the screw and take out the wedge and spring.check the spring, if needed replace. Replacement is easy again, walk to a automobile or watch repair center, or order this from the manfacturer. re-assemble..
Good part of this DIY, you dont need to part with your gun..
excuse the poor quality pics, on a bean bag and its nice to be here...
