Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
R-Dhillon,
What you have is an IOF .22 manufactured around 1978 or so onwards. Built on the lines of the .315 rifle. Three leaf rear sight set at 25, 50 and 100 metres. Sold for INR 2530 (2300+230 ST). Had IOF action, with 2 Piece bolt, with the rear part rotating. Two stage trigger, not grooved for scopes, had to fabricate a side mount. 5 shot magazine, that sat flush with the stock. Was never popular, cause Brno's sold for INR 5000-6000 near new then.
Was a very heavy but reliable rifle, digested any ammo then available, IOF, Kynoch etc. Do not use CCI Blazer, risk of ruptured heads, cause, this rifle was built with excessive head space to use IOF ammo (IOF ammo had poor tolerences for their rims). Should be quite accurate (1.5-2 inches at 50 yards), if maintained properly and barrel crown not damaged.
And no, this was never used by NCC, in NCC we used .303 Enfields, with .22 barrel liners and modified bolts. Single shot guns with a hollow magazine.

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
Any latest experience of 0.22 IOF rifle after price hike. Is it worth buying? What about delivery procedure at RFI? Can anybody share his latest experience.

I am asking if anybody got delivery of 0.22 from RFI recently. His experience and other factory formalities etc.

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
I would be very surprised if it did. For one thing the barrel profile is very different. You may be better off getting a similar semi-finished stock without the inletting done and having the final work (including the inletting) done out here.shivi wrote:Does the IOF .22 action fit the Brno model 2 stock?? .does the inletting match the action ???.....

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
Hi Rustum,
I'm Venkatesh from Bangalore. I own a IOF .22 rifle since 2001. It is very fine and I have groupings that would match a Brno. I'm pretty satisfied with it and would defenitely recommend it to anyone wanting to opt for a .22. I've got the blueing done and the stock sized down to something like a Brno.

Factory price is 42K. But dealers will definitely have their own pricings.

Re: IOF .22 LR rifle
well i have recently got addition in my arms licence for a rifle. i already have a over under shot gun but a shot gun is not my type of gun , you cannot mount a telescope and hit the target as accurate as you can. so i am planning for a rifle but still undecided .
the .22 lr had advantages :
1. price of ammunition most economical and easily available
2. lesser recoil and soft handling gun feature
3. Good for target practice
4. Good accuracy.
5. reliability of ammunition and choice of ammunition make.
6. Low initial cost
disadvantages :
1. lesser powerful stopping power
2. lesser range
3. less suitable for home defense.
4. lesser resale value
these dis advantages are in comparison to .315 and 30-06 rifles available in market and at present 30-06 is the most dealdly calibre avaible in india.
cud any body please correct me if i am wrong on the specs of .22 rifle and guide me whether should i go for the the .22 or .315 for hobby and gun possession.

Hi Rohit,
You can blindly go for the .22. You will love to own it and never think of reselling it. I own one.
