Dangerous game rifle

A rare beautiful 404 sold by Rodda in India and made on a Mauser M 98 action by Schuler of Germany. The rifle is chambered for the 404 Jeffrey cartridge. ( 404 EXP or the 10.75 x 73). The rifle is in its original form except for the Pachmayr recoil pad. The original buffalo horn butt plate gave a sore shoulder!! The rifle has a cape buffalo horn forend and pistol grip cap. It shows a rare foreend cross wedge to take up the recoil. The walnut is european with straight grain to give strength in holding up against heavy recoil. It was described by the German Gun Collectors Association as a rare masterpeice by August Schuler. The German markings are all beneath the Walnut to attract British buyers considering the Anglo- German rivalry of those years. Wow what a rifle. Do you get 404 Ammo easily in India? Such a rifle would be a great draw in Africa. Is it for sale?

How different is a 30-06 cartridge from this one?

Thanks guys for the nice words. The 404 NE or the 10.75 x 73 as it is known in Germany is a dangerous game cartridge generating (in its modern loadings) more than 4500 ft pounds of energy. A typical modern load would be 400 grain bullets exiting the barrel at about 2300 fps. You can compare this with the 30-06, 180 grain bullets at 2700 fps and 2900 ft pounds of energy. The 404 is best suited for hunting dangerous game, on foot, at ranges withn 50 yards. In the Indian context it is not an all purpose rifle like the 30 06 but a possession for the enthusiast.
Cartridges in India can be imported. You are right such a rife is a prized possession in Africa and even the US. I am not too sure i want to sell it but it all depends on what you can offer

Thats a Great find Shooter,Schueler wouldnt have had any problem in getting a 98 in a longish action, I guess approx 3.6 inches to take the 404 action.I think the Colombian k98 were long enough for this.
