Hi Guys,
> This 'Avatar' thread is weaving itself into an intricate fabric as somewhere along the line one has overlooked the subject title "What your Avatar says about you"?
> Technically Avatar means - Incarnation, but I presume we are talking about the 'Inner Persona' of each of us - right?
> Come to think of it all of us nurture this inner desire to portray or atleast wish to be identified with an imaginery person which is a creation of our own flight of fantasy.
> This is evident from the Icons that we display against our 'Pseudonyms' in this forum, while our real identity is mysteriously hidden.
> In other words the Avatar we are talking about is infact our "ALTER EGOS". Here's some food for thought.

People have different views on what exactly alter ego is. It is a person that people create within themselves and relate to the person in terms of making it an ideal. Once a person creates an alter ego, they start dreaming about the same and living a life of their own with the alter ego.

Usually, people who have been deprived or who haven’t been able to do what they always wanted to do in life have an alter ego. They seem to live in their dreams and have a life of what they had always wanted.

They imagine themselves in the world of their dreams and reach their goals with the help of this alter ego. Most of the times the interest of the person and his / her alter ego are the same and they try to develop it in their own manner.

There are many people who are unaware of them having an alter ego and there are some who might be aware of the fact.

Having an alter ego at times can be beneficial, provided it does not go overboard. It gives the person a sense of completeness. However, if the alter ego is more perfect than your real self, then it can result in low self-esteem. It is also at times seen that if the alter ego is dominating, then it can prevent a person from leading a normal life.

Cheers

My "avatar" showcases a weapon, the King of blades called "Aruval", some relative of sickle. Several forms this tool come handy for many purposes, right from harvesting the crops to the slitting of throat in cold blooded murders.

Comes in different sizes, shapes and blade variations. Very famous in the southern states of the country, especially Tamil Nadu.
You will find classic examples of "concealed carry" of this weapon in majority of the movies.
At times, I stay silent. When I don't speak, it doesn't mean I don't have anything to say and running out of words. It only means that I have better things to do.

Apart from the Avatar I find the Signature quite interesting too. We seem to have stuff ranging from Hitler to Heinlein to the slightly risque Mae West !

Sorry about the OT though.

I'd assumed Mundaire's avatar had something to do with Catch 22 . I wonder why I though that ? hmm ...

And last but not least Singh itself means Tiger.

A common misconception.

Singh means a lion.
Baagh means tiger.

eg: Ashok symbol has 4 'singh' on it. Look carefully they are lions.

in urdu: sher is tiger and babbar sher is lion.

One of the reasons this misconception is never clarified is because a big chunk of people call a tiger a lion. They also call a leopard a panther or a cheeta(h).
For eg. ajeet in kalicharan saying "saaraa shaher mujhe loin ke naam se jaanta hai" and in the backgroung there is a pic with him and a tiger.

Aah man great thread.

Two reasons for my avatar.
1) Love this picture and the freedom it depicts
2)Observe the Chicks with the GUNS and what they say. "Atleast we have much better rules to protect ourselves than those humans"

yaar main bhe to wohee kaih raha hoon singh = sher

When you are using the word 'sher' you are meaning tiger. and you have written singh means tiger while explaining your avtaar. That is not true it is a misconception.

please note tiger is the one in your avtaar the striped one. lion is the one with a mane (classically though indian ones have a really sparsed one).

Please note 'sher' word is of persian-urdu origin and the misconception is quite rife esp. in Punjaab since maharaja Ranjit Singh was called Sher-e-Punjab or lion of punjaab.

All I can say is that writers or linguists may not necessarily be naturalists.

Several such mistakes in famous writings like in the old testament the so called whale is referred as fish (it is a mammal). In the Geets a Mugger crocodile is referred as a fish (it is a reptile).

Similarly when a writed writes wrongly about an animal (calling a lion a sher and at other times a tiger a sher and then reading a lion as singh), one does get confused .
Root Sanskrit
Simha= lion hence sinha, singha ,singh etc
Vyaghra= tiger hence bagh, wagh etc

:agree:
tiger also called shardool
Lion called mrigendra, kesri, vanraj

If you read old books on 'sher ki shikaar' it will ALWAYS refer to tiger hunts not lion hunts. Lion will be called Singh or Babbar sher.
