US woman raped at gun point
http://www.dnaindia.com/india/report_am ... ad_1406594
Hyderabad: A 25-year-old American woman working for an NGO claimed on Wednesday that she had been raped by an unidentified man in the wee hours at gun point.
According to the complaint she filed with the Banjara Hills Police, past midnight on Tuesday when she was in her bed, an unidentified man entered her house through the window and raped her at gun point. The man decamped with about Rs5 lakh.
Two police teams have been formed to track down the rapist
based on the description given by her. Dog squads were also pressed into service. The victim has been admitted to a hospital and reports of her medical tests were awaited, a police officer said. However, police have found no evidence to support her claims that she was blindfolded by the accused.
Investigators have doubts about Helen’s story. “There are several holes in the story. We have to reconstruct the incident and see if the suspect can actually get into the house through the window,” a police source said. Investigators are also trying to find whether Helen and her boyfriend had had a scuffle on Tuesday night.

Jeff Cooper advocated four basic rules of gun safety:
1) All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.
2) Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.
3) Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target.
4) Identify your target, and what is behind it.

It appears you all are supporting each other just for the heck of it, without thinking. We all know that India is a highly corrupt country and there is no shortage of false cases and convictions. Even in countries having the "best" judicial system, there have been cases where innocent people have been falsely convicted. What do you think if one of you is a victim of a false case of rape and get convicted, then do you think it is fair for yourself to be treated in a manner you are proposing? Moreover such kind of punishments will make the criminals to simply kill their victims, so that there is nobody alive to lodge complaint.

I wonder if the same would have happened if she were in the USA with a CCW permit.

I'm sure the everybody here agreed after reading it properly and not just mindless agreement. In every crime there are people who are falsely accused and they bear the brunt of it - it happens, that is part of the process but just because you are scared of being falsely accused the law is not changed and neither will the punishment.goodboy_mentor wrote:It appears you all are supporting each other just for the heck of it, without thinking. There are many culprits who commit rape again and again and walk away because of various reasons.
If this method is enforced then nobody will dare to commit such a crime.

Sniper, you are missing the main point. Are you willing to get falsely accused then get convicted and punished by the law proposed by you?
My point is that any law should be balanced taking all possibilities into account, not biased and tilted. In India, it is not the problem with the laws, it is the problem with enforcement of existing laws.

Nope, i did not miss the point. getting falsely accused is possible in any situation, you might be falsely accused and convicted of manslaughter etc which might end up in a death sentence,or even petty crimes and be punished - tough luck- no system is foolproof and perfect but at the same time a Heinous act of rape deserves such punishment or if not the extreme steps mentioned above then at least a very very strict punishment that will act as a deterrent for others who have such intentions.

Re: US woman raped at gun point
There have been various instances where women have cohabited with men with their own will but later on blamed them of committing rape . So Good Mentor had a very valid point . It's not that all the rape cases are false but the law in India is such that mere statement of a women is evident enough to implicate a person as a convict . There is no such way where by a person can prove that the Cohabitation was mutual , in case the medical report proves that the lady had intercourse ,it is not necessary to prove that weather it was mutual or by force . Mere statement of the woman will be enough to prosecute that man of committing the crime of rape. But In my opinion Capital punishment is necessary for people committing such a heinous crime with children . No mercy should be shown towards these people " IF FOUND GUILTY ".
