Re: Airgun import experiences - via personal baggage route
Guys, about bringing the Airgun by Personal baggage, BEWARE. Dont, I repeat Dont take the risk of landing at Chennai.
It has totally changed over the past experiences. It is always better import by Cargo or Courier. I have been runnng to the Airport Customs for the past four full days. I have gone to the Forensic Department on two days and now I am yet to clear the Gun, becos the Customs guys are now looking at the applicable duty and the rates startedat 36.05 % and went up to 50% and now to 103%. All the earlier notifications about No duty for Air Guns of .177 Caliber are all trashed by these guys, saying that they do not apply to pesonal baggage. They say that the Air Guns are firearms and therefore they cannot also be brought within the Free Baggage allowance of Rs 25,000/- like other personal baggage items. So I am running pillar to post as on date to get some piece of paper to show that the Rate of duty is waived for air Guns of .177 caliber and that they can also be brought as Personal baggage and that the Duty Waiver is also applicable for air guns brought by personal baggage. Any one with the above material please message me. My email id is [email protected]

Re: Airgun import experiences - via personal baggage route
all i see here is airguns...nothing much about the airsoft guns. incase you r wondering what the hell are airsoft guns .. they are the 1:1 replicas of the real guns and shoot 6mm plastic bullets known as bb's .
so, coming to the point, can my relative bring in an airsoft gun in the baggage from USA?
USA federal law considers the airsoft guns as recreational replicas of guns and not as fire arms....
the gun i asked my relative to bring is Double Eagle M82 AEG S552....

HI Guys
This is my first post. I got one .177 walther CP88 air pistol from Canada in my personal baggage 2yrs back. Was lucky to get away after paying Rs.1500/- to the guy in white. I am presently in US and wanted to know if I can get another .177 air pistol in my personal baggage, legally? I am not a member of any shooting or rifle club. please share your knowledge...

As per the rules it is a no no without the club membership. You can be penalized heavily.

Schools or clubs affiliated to a state rifle association or the NRAI is the norm.

Re: Airgun import experiences - via personal baggage route
Dev , when did it become a mandatory requirement to have Rifle Club Membership to bring .177 Cal Airgun/rifle in personal baggage ? As per my knowledge anyone can bring airgun/rifle of .177 Caliber in personal baggage after paying 35% duty. Has anything changed in between or I am missing a point here .. ?

Re: Airgun import experiences - via personal baggage route
That is correct. The rule doesn't apply for airguns imported in baggage. Infact the caliber is also not a restriction as I know quite a few people who have imported the 22 cal in baggage at time paying duty with receipt, at times without duty Edited this board doesnt condone circumventing the law be careful while posting.

Don’t even think of Chennai airport. They are perhaps the strictest in the country. Even with all your papers right they will show you a hundred things wrong. Your best bet would be Delhi or Trivandrum. Very few people have had an easy experience but for most it’s been a horror. So if you’ve not booked your tickets yet, think again.
